Lucy's obituary
Lucy Heming Hutchinson, 72, of Norwell, MA, passed away suddenly on February 6, 2026 in Boston, MA.
Born in Manhattan, New York, in 1953, Lucy was the daughter of Charles E. and Olga Heming. Lucy grew up in Scarsdale, NY. She graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1975 with a dual degree in Art History and French. Lucy earned a Masters Degree in Art History from Vanderbilt University in 1979, writing her thesis on her grandfather, the noted printmaker Armin Landeck.
Lucy worked in several museums over the years, including the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, the Corcoran Gallery and the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, and the High Museum in Atlanta, GA. Lucy loved every aspect of art history and studio art. As an artist, she worked in fiber arts and mixed media. She transformed every home she lived in into a work of art.
Lucy was married to James S. (Jamie) Hutchinson for over 50 years. Lucy and Jamie were lifelong partners who always supported each other’s interests and passions.
In addition to her husband, Jamie, Lucy is survived by her adored children: Amanda S. Rajpara (spouse Ankur), and Samuel H. Hutchinson (spouse Markie), and granddaughter Nora M. Hutchinson. Lucy is also survived by her brother, Michael C. Heming; her mother, Olga Rothschild; and her step-mother, Barbara Heming. Lucy was predeceased by her father, Charles E. Heming, and her sister, Amanda H. Minsky.
Lucy was an unusually vivacious, warm, and welcoming person. She maintained close relationships with friends throughout the South Shore of Boston and around the country, and she continually made new friends.
Lucy will be deeply missed by many.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Lucy at 11 am on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, in Duxbury, MA.
