Lorraine's obituary

Lorraine Marie Scott, also known as Joy Yvonne Bybee (and many other names), has made her transition from the physical world. As were the details of much of her life, the circumstances surrounding her passing were as well mysterious. Her remains were found in May of 2022 in Lake City, Michigan, and are presumed to have been in that location for several years. The cause of death remains unknown, but it is thought to have been natural causes.

Lorraine was born August 18, 1956, to Mary and Bob Adams of Belvidere, Illinois, and was adopted at a very young age by Katherine & Alden Scott of Roscoe Illinois, all of whom are now deceased. She is survived by her daughter, Tiffany Rochelle Bybee, her sisters, Loretta Fildes (Adams), Rebecca Allee (Adams), Linda Draheim (Adams), Roberta Adams, and her brother Robert Moore (Adams). Miss Scott also has many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who always held a special place in her heart.

She lived a very full and adventurous life, leaving an impact on everyone she crossed paths with. She was by no means a saint and one could not call her honest, but underneath it all, and despite her actions, she deeply loved her family.

As a child, she spent a great deal of time riding horses with her cousins, Jill, Linda, and Janet. A recreation her father, Alden, and she bonded over and something she excelled at for many years. The two of them, as well as her mother Katherine, also shared a love for traveling, an interest she may have taken a little too far later in life.

By the time of her death, Lorraine had either lived in or driven through every one of the continental United States, as well as parts of Canada. In the 60+ years, she spent on this earth, she spent most of it traveling. Maybe not always as Lorraine, but it still counts. The humor of which would not have been lost on her.

She was highly creative and crafty, not just in the decorative sense either! Anyone who knew her can attest to that. Much of what Lorraine did in her life was not favorable. Yet despite that, she was a very likable person. Easy going, approachable and willing to help (sometimes too much). She delighted in making people laugh and had a smile that, although at times devious, could light up the room. Usually, because it was proceeded by something goofy she just did or a joke she was waiting for you to get the punch line of. Despite the difficulties in her life, she spent a lot of time laughing, singing, and enjoying it to its fullest. And boy did she like to sing. Loud, often and in front of anyone!

Many of Lorraine’s travels were with her daughter in her early childhood which she always tried to make fun regardless of the circumstances surrounding why they were on the road again. Which incidentally was one of the many theme songs she had for their adventures. Others included “Rawhide” and “Hit the Road Jack”.

For a person with so many lives, there were always a few things that remained constant. Interests she was extremely passionate about no matter which life she was leading. Her love for country music, specifically Reba McEntire was something that remained true no matter what identity she was using. As was her love for Clint Eastwood movies, horror flicks, true crime television and anything to do with Lucille Ball. Similar, was her affection for animals. No matter who or where she was, she surely had a feline or canine by her side. Nature seemed to be the only place where she felt at peace. How fitting for it to have been her final resting place.

The life of Lorraine was a true example of how even on the darkest of days, there is always a light. Her impact on all of us, good and bad was nothing short of legendary. She left us all with fascinating stories to tell and moments we will never forget. She united many, who now call one another friends, who may have otherwise never crossed paths. In the shadows she cast upon us, she left behind a spark that created an extended family and an extensive support system for anyone left in her wake. Especially for her daughter, whose life she had the most profound impact on. In a time when she could not be there to raise her, so many others stepped in. If it had not been for her, Tiffany may not have been fortunate enough to know the many loved ones she now holds so dear.

Let us all remember this as we say our final farewell to this extraordinary woman.

As it is sung in “Amazing Grace”, she once was lost, but now has been found. Her chains are gone, and she has been set free. She is finally at peace. Something she spent her whole life searching for and was never able to find.
