Lon's obituary

Dr Lon David Lawrenz, of Tempe, AZ, 74, passed away on July 4, 2021 at his residence.

Lon was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin September 17, 1946 to Carl E. Lawrenz and Viola P. (Bathke) Lawrenz of Algoma, Kewaunee County, WI. He was the younger of two boys.

Lon was raised in Loyal, WI where he earned the honor of Valedictorian, Loyal High School.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Dental studies at the University of Wisconsin, Stout, and earned a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) from Marquette University, specializing in General Dentistry with an emphasis on Crown/Bridge Preventive Dentistry in May of 1970.

Dr. Lawrenz then joined the Army shortly after dental school, earning the rank of Captain while being stationed in Okinawa, Japan for two and a half years. In Okinawa, Captain Lawrenz ran a preventative dentistry clinic. Lon provided day to day general dentistry and was awarded The Army Commendation Medal for having the most outstanding international dental practice at that time. He served with the reserves after coming back from his overseas duty. His last rank was that of Major.
After servicing his country, Dr. Lawrenz managed his own family dentistry practice from 1973 through 2020 in Tempe AZ. In his dental practice Dr. Lon focused his work on preventive dentistry, crowns, bridges, cosmetic, full-mouth reconstruction, and periodontics. He also specialized in chronic head and neck pain, orthodontics, and the use of innovative laser technology. He loved his patients, and those he worked with throughout the years of his practice.

Lon’s hobbies included photography, and numerous sports, especially baseball. He also enjoyed volunteering with the Tempe Nuevo Kiwanis Club, and was a long-term, active member King of Glory Lutheran Church.
Lon married his first wife, Kathleen Feeney in Milwaukee, WI, June 8, 1968. They had three children together, and were divorced in 1983.

Lon married Peggy Ann Moneymaker of Benson, AZ on June 25, 1984 in Tempe, AZ. They had one child.
Lon is preceded in death by his beloved wife Peggy Ann Moneymaker (April 15, 2020), and by parents, Carl E. Lawrenz and Viola P. Bathke.

Lon is survived by his brother, Lynn (Donna Lou) Lawrenz, nieces Lychelle Lawrenz, and Sam (Mark) Prokash, and extended family members; by former wife Kathleen Kline, by children: Lara (Dave) Folmer, Damon (Jessica) Lawrenz, Amber Lawrenz (Aaron Zaragoza), and Trevor Lawrenz; and grandchildren: Andrew, Archer, and Akira Zaragoza; Abby Lawrenz; and Dave J, Jake, and Blake Folmer.

All friends and family are welcome at both services on Wednesday, August 11, 2021:
