Leonard's obituary

Dr. Leonard Edward “Len” Forner, age 74, was called home on March 13, 2026, near his home in Greensboro, GA.

Len was born on July 25, 1951, in Albany, New York, and grew up in Menands, NY. He spent his childhood exploring the neighborhood, catching frogs and snakes, and getting into all kinds of mischief alongside his two brothers, Peter and John, and two sisters, Chris and Bonnie. Many of his early memories were made during summers at Lake George with his family, a place that remained special to him throughout his life, and he continued to return there whenever he could.

He attended Christian Brothers Academy, graduating in 1969, and went on to attend Union College, where he graduated in 1973. Len later pursued a career in medicine via Albany Medical School, and became a dedicated pediatrician, eventually opening and operating his own practice, Farmington Pediatrics. For decades, Dr. Forner cared for countless families and children, dedicating his life to helping others and making a meaningful difference in his community.

Throughout his life, Len spent time giving back to others through volunteer work and service in his community. He was actively involved in charitable efforts through the Salvation Army, food pantry programs, and church events. In his later years, Len rekindled a deep relationship with the church and with Christ, a faith that became very important to him and brought him great meaning and peace.

Len spent much of his life in Simsbury, Connecticut, where he raised his two sons, Zachary and Tyler, with his late wife, Katherine Forner. Kathy was the love of his life, and we take comfort in knowing they are reunited in heaven.

Later in life, Len found love again and married Jan Tingey (Forner), who was by his side until the end. Together they began the next chapter of their lives in Bonita Springs, Florida, where they embraced an active lifestyle filled with golf, tennis, pickleball, and time with friends at Bonita National.

In November 2025, Len and Jan moved to Greensboro, GA, near Lake Oconee, where they looked forward to enjoying all four seasons together. Len welcomed the challenge of Harbor Club golf, the chance to take on projects around the house, and relaxed bird watching outside their new home. He quickly became part of the golf, tennis, and pickleball communities. Meeting new people was never an issue for Len and Jan, as they had such a welcoming and warm approach to everyone.

Len lived life fully and with enthusiasm. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, volunteer, pickleball and tennis player who loved competition and the camaraderie that came with it. He also loved hosting friends and family, often stepping into the role of the home bartender while Jan organized gatherings and game nights. Len had a sharp wit and an unforgettable sense of humor, sometimes delivering an inappropriate joke at just the right moment to break the ice.

Those who knew Len will remember his ability to see the best in people, his deep loyalty to family and friends, and his always-active lifestyle. He could be stubborn at times, but he never failed to make time for the people he loved.

Len was especially proud of his two sons, Tyler and Zach, and the men they have become. He adored his grandchildren, Trent, Ethan, and Abby, and was greatly looking forward to celebrating Zach’s wedding this upcoming June.

Len is survived by his loving wife, Jan Forner; his sons, Tyler and Zach; his grandchildren, Trent, Ethan, and Abigail; and his siblings, John, Chrissy, Peter, and Bonnie, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Len did not wish to have a formal funeral or service. In lieu of services, the family invites friends and loved ones to honor his memory by sharing stories, photos, and memories as a way to celebrate the life he lived and the many people he touched.

If you know Lenny, he was extremely dedicated to volunteering. We ask that you take time in the next few months to volunteer and give back. He also loved golf. Dedicate your next birdie to him.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

The family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
