Personal note from Diane Johnson's daughter, Kelli

7 months ago an event occurred that upended my world. My source of light, my rock, my mom, Diane Johnson, succumbed to her ferocious battle with breast cancer. Her passion for life and delightful sense of humor endeared her to everyone. My heart aches for her every day.

Throughout the daunting and arduous journey of hospitalizations and treatment, our family was buoyed and shepherded by incredibly compassionate, diligent, and deeply knowledgeable teams of nurses. Breast Cancer Awareness Month offers everyone an opportunity to reflect deeply on the profound, sometimes devastating, impact that fighting cancer has on individuals and the unwavering dedication of all the caregivers and professionals that rally with love to support them. My mom was not only a profoundly inspiring and phenomenal mother, but also a deeply compassionate, trailblazing nurse and executive, who dedicated herself to enhancing patient care by expanding growth and development opportunities for nurses.

In memoriam to my mom’s exceptional legacy, the Diane Johnson Nursing Advancement Scholarship was founded to support nursing education and promote the ambitions of nursing students. Please join me in recognizing the amazing impact nurses have on our lives. Whether you have a personal connection to a nurse, have been touched by their care, or simply understand their vital role, your donation will help to empower future caregivers to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families, just as my mom did.

Here’s how you can help:
