Dear Mary, Alia, Amy, Shanon & the entire Higgins clan, my sincere condolences on Larry’s passing.  Larry & I grew up in Pearl River, NY together &  became friends when we went to PR High School through his younger brother Danny. Larry was known to be a great adventurer, fisherman & lover of the outdoors.  I recall early on Larry sharing stories about his frequent & memorable  trips out west with PR friends to Yellow Stone  and other national parks. He was the poster child for “Head west young man” and ultimately did in early 1990’s. Originally destined for Hawaii, Larry set out on a cross  country trip to the left coast & stopping along the way at the most magnificent parks & sites in this country.  I recently moved to San Fran from Rockland County, NY but over Christmas 1990 ran into Larry and told him I was living in Bay Area and to look me up when he got there. Long story longer, Larry came rolling into town following summer, found a nice gig working for a prominent SF construction firm doing renovations for the rich & famous Pacific Hts & presidio Hts  homes with pal Tony H & crew.  I was living in Cow Hollow w/ basketball hoop pal Billy Perrine in a 2BR  & good size sunroom in back. Larry was game for sunroom/3rd BR  but knew he could only get there by going thru my room Not Billy’s since he was my PR friend. We worked it out a system ended  up shared some great times & laughs  in that apt and playing hoops at Presidio Y, golfing at Harding, Presidio, & Lincoln, mts biking at Mts Tam, doing Bay to Breakesrs race, shoreline concerts and always going down the  block  on weekends to our fav neighborhood bar, the Final Final  where Larry & I took on anyone for pool. We had a blast & Larry was always up for new adventure or road trips. It was cool to share some of my best San Fransicko as Larry called it) times with Higgs. A loyal friend who always had my back thx to those PR roots. I’m so glad Larry met Mary, started his own family to share his love for the west and outdoors in  beautiful Marin County. I’ll miss sharing cold Sierra Nevada beers with Higgs on my SF trips and talking PR, sports and politics ) RIP  & God Bless pal. 

I will miss Larry.  He and Mary are neighbors of my sister, Gail and I had many warm interactions with both of them.  Larry bravely dealt with his ALS and his diminishing abilities.  He was a warm, kind, caring man who genuinely loved his family.  His suffering is over now, but he was someone who brought love into the world and it’s colder now that he’s gone.  RIP Larry.

I first met Larry on the Che Job in San Francisco. I was a first time foreman on the remodel of a four story brick building in Pacific Heights for Plath & Company. I started the job with Ron Poetle and Gilberto. Larry was the next to join the crew. I liked him right away. He was gregarious and open but also forceful and loyal. He defended me more than once from bullying subcontractors. On that job Larry and I began our lifelong friendship founded in the work that we did together. We had a core group of guys starting on the Che job and extending to other projects too including Rich Persike, Jamie Falkowski, Kirk Kellenbeck and Ron. In those days we would grab a beer and a burrito after work or head out to Lincoln Golf Course for an afternoon round in the fog. We would and pack our beers in our golf bags, no ice needed.

After the Che job finished and we moved to separate companies we still saw each other professionally. I would work for Larry on one or two jobs years later after he started his Own Company, Higgins Home Improvement. But we also continued as personal friends. He was having the same set of experiences as I was. He met Mary, started a family and bought a house. Amy and Shannon came along at the same time as my two daughters. Our wives and daughters all became friends too.

Larry didn’t have it easy. He had to work hard to make things good for his family. What a great husband and father! He was loyal, strong, rarely complaining and always ready with a laugh. You saw Larry's essence at the end. He was a brave man.

Mary’s beautifully written memorial can not be improved upon but we’d love to say cheers to the wonderful, genuine, helpful, kind and upbeat friend, father and husband we witnessed in Larry! 

I can still remember he and our Laura meeting for the first time when she served him a beer up at the Dusty Spur retreat. I think they were equally enamored with each other and I’m sure she and Christopher have welcomed Larry to heaven with similar exuberance!

Much love and many comforting prayers to Mary, Alia and Amy and of course the amazing, joy producing Shannon through whom we all met!
