Kishu's obituary
In loving memory of Kishu Daswani, who peacefully departed from this world on August 26, 2023, in Richardson, Texas. He was the devoted and loving father of his daughter, Sherry; a kindred spirit with his son-in-law, Barry; dear brother to his six sisters: Gopi, Shaku, Padma, Geeta, Dolly, and Meenu; beloved ‘Uncle K’ to his many nieces and nephews, and long-time companion to his dear best friend, Jean Shema, all of whom he left behind. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on September 14, 1932, in Hyderabad, Sindh, India, Kishu was the son of the late Bhagwandas and Lachmi Daswani. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kamal; his elder daughter, Sonia; brothers, Gul and Gobind; and sister, Leela.
One of the kindest souls on the planet, Kishu was a gentle and giving man, who wanted to put a smile on the face of everyone he met. He would tease and joke with the family he loved dearly and to all those he met in passing. Kishu worked tirelessly to take care of the family closest to him – be it immediate, extended, or locally gathered - and assure their wellbeing with love, support, and kindness.
Kishu suffered many hardships and challenges in his life; as a teenager, partition in India; as a young adult, civil war and multiple coups in Africa; then early in his life in the United States, the tragic death of his wife and a daughter. He survived these events with admirable strength, courage, and the love and support of his close friends, his family, and the family of his late wife. He always persevered and looked to the future; believing that life is for the living. Despite his hardships, he found beauty in the world around him and loved taking pictures of all things in nature, from the plants in his backyard and the formal gardens in the places he lived, to the picturesque fall foliage of the Pittsburgh hills.
Kishu was pragmatic in life and had only one wish for his final journey – to simply have his ashes spread in flowing water. So, in lieu of services, we invite you to join us in a virtual celebration of Kishu’s life on September 14th, 2023, at 8pm CT, marking what would have been Kishu’s 91st birthday. Leading up to the event, we encourage you to share your cherished memories, pictures, and condolences on his memorial website, (xxx) where you will also find a link to the online Celebration of Life via zoom.
Kishu Daswani’s legacy is one of resilience, love, and the pursuit of happiness. May his memory inspire us to seek beauty in the world and spread kindness to all we encounter.
