Wonderful memories from a spe…

Wonderful memories from a special day with Kevin and Lane

Judge Carroll was the epitome of a true Southern Gentleman.  He will be sorely missed in our legal community.  His kindness and wisdom will not be replaced.  Our hearts ache for your family's loss, and we will donate to the AHA in his honor.

Sincerely,

Stephen G. Webster and Louis J. Baptiste

I was a lawyer in front of Judge Carroll for about a year and a half in my role with the Public Defenders Office and I can say that anyone who practiced in front of Judge Carroll knew what a great Judge and more importantly what a great person he was.

He never thought wearing a robe made him better than anyone else, in fact I think he was sort of bashful about all the pomp and circumstance that comes with being a Judge. I can remember a few times seeing him just after court walking back to his chambers with his robe slung around the back of his shoulder, like it was some sort of jacket he didn't feel like wearing.

For rich or poor, black or white, he treated everyone in his courtroom with kindness and respect. He didn't see people as case numbers or SPN numbers because he saw people by their humanity and empathized with the struggles many of my clients go through. He was just.

If he ever did raise his voice in court (which was very rare), he would stop, lean back in his chair and say "well I am sorry about that y'all, I feel better now having fussed." He was endearing.

He was serious about his role and his great responsibilities, but he never took himself too seriously. During a recent voir dire, he asked a meteorologist on the jury panel if the maglab really does control the weather. He was funny.

He was one of a kind and its such a massive loss for the 2nd Judicial Circuit that he is gone. I can express nothing but my sincerest condolences to his family and friends, I will keep them in my prayers and his memory in my heart.

It was a pleasure to work with Judge Carroll on our many Mental Health cases.  He would call me on my cell to discuss things and always open by saying, "this is your favorite Judge calling".....he was kind, compassionate and always wanted to to do the right thing.  I will miss those calls and conversations Judge!  My prayers and love to the family.
Kevin was the best and loved by all! A great family man with a wonderful family.  I will miss him and his humor a great deal. Always kind and welcoming. His love of Auburn University grew us closer. He was a huge Auburn fan!  Lane, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
