Kathy's obituary
Kathryn Kahn, 90
March 31, 2023 ~ 9 Nisan 5783
Loving mother and educator Kathryn Kahn a”h passed away in Jerusalem, Israel on 9 Nisan, March 31, 2023.
Born in New Albany, Kathy graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington before marrying Ed Kahn and raising her children in Louisville. Her greatest passion was teaching reading and music first to her children as a stay-at-home mom and then at JCPS and state agency schools.
Kathy developed very close friendships with her fellow educators. After a full day of teaching in school, she continued tutoring at home with private students, for whom she organized recitals every spring. She was a patient and soft-spoken teacher and loved all of her students as if they were her own. She also performed with the River City Klezmer band for many years. Kathy reluctantly retired at age 86, having taught for nearly five decades. She lived with her daughter, enjoying Eretz Yisroel and the holy city until her passing. She was laid to rest on Har haMenuchot on Erev Shabbat HaGadol.
Kathy davened and studied Torah every day and raised her children in a kosher, shomer-Shabbat home, with her husband, Eddie. The family belonged to Congregation Anshei Sfard and the JCC.
Kathy is survived by her children and their families: Avram in Louisville, Rebecca in Jerusalem, Eliah (Lisa) in Philadelphia, Joseph (Irina) in New Jersey, Shmuel (Elana) in Tampa, along with beloved grandchildren: Sarah, Marisa, Chana, Dovid, Tzipora, Gavriella, and Clarity.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to her favorite charity, The Chicken Lady of Jerusalem (Clara Hammer Chicken Fund), or to Louisville's Adath Jeshurun congregation, or other charity of your choice.
