Justin's obituary
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Justin E. Isom, 43, on June 4, 2025. His absence leaves a void that words cannot express, as he touched the lives of so many with his vibrant spirit, tenacity, impressively high intellect, and sincere faith in God. Justin was not just a remarkable man; he was a devoted father, a loving son, a cherished brother, and a loyal confidant. His radiant presence will be eternally remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Growing up in Huber Heights, Ohio, he was known as a gifted athlete, excelling in Taekwondo, football, soccer, and baseball. He was a standout running back in the Huber Heights Youth Football League through junior high school and a national soccer champion with the Stingers traveling youth league. Further honing his athletic ability, Justin lettered in both varsity basketball and football at Wayne High School and chose to pursue his passion for football at the collegiate level. He received a scholarship to attend and play football for Butler University in Indiana, becoming a standout cornerback at the NCAA Division 1A level. After his freshman year, Justin moved to pursue his dream of playing in the Big 10 and decided to walk on to the Golden Gophers Football Team at the University of Minnesota. Justin, #20, lived up to the two Chinese tattoos on each of his arms of Loyalty and Commitment. Within one year as a Golden Gopher, Justin's tenacity earned him a full scholarship, receiving university academic and athletic honors. In 2003, Justin graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned his Master of Education degree in 2004.
Justin went on to play an outstanding year of professional arena football with the Columbus Destroyers in Columbus, Ohio, before turning his sights back to academics and pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at Capital University. True to Justin's form, he excelled in this space - publishing on the university's Law Review, clerking for a federal judge, and passing the Ohio Bar exam on his first attempt. Justin E. Isom, Esq., briefly worked with a prestigious Columbus law firm before founding a highly successful legal services firm. Soon after selling his firm, Justin joined the U.S. Army's Judge Advocate General's Corps as a JAG Officer and proudly served as a prosecutor, defense attorney, overseas contract negotiator, and EEO attorney, achieving the rank of Captain and earning the Parachutist Wings during his decade-long service.
Justin continued his passion for entrepreneurship by founding Heights Money Management LLC and supporting and mentoring early-stage companies through his involvement with Startup NV and Fund NV as an angel investor. In 2019, Justin became the owner of an Amazon Delivery Service Partner (DSP) business in Las Vegas, exponentially growing it in just a few years. As a DSP owner, Justin quickly identified an opportunity to make scheduling more efficient and create a consistent work/life balance for drivers; thereby, he created 2on2off, a proprietary scheduling software application. Shortly before his death, Justin received approval to share the revolutionary application with the entire Amazon DSP network, showcasing his commitment to enhancing the community around him.
Justin lived his 43 years of life with great ambition and determination, leaving an indelible mark in every arena he entered, on and off the field. Still, he would tell anyone that his greatest gift was his daughter. To Nyah, please always know that your father loved you with his entire soul, and he was more proud of you than anything he did or could have achieved in his life.
To describe Justin E. Isom as extraordinary feels like an understatement. He was a beacon of light, integrity, and inspiration who left us far too soon. Justin, "Ice," your legacy will forever live on in our hearts and our prayers. We love you and miss you deeply, and we will carry your memory with us always.
"For we know that when this tent we live in now is taken down—when we die and leave these bodies—we will have wonderful new bodies in heaven, homes that will be ours forevermore, made for us by God himself and not by human hands." - 2 Corinthians 5:1 Living Bible Translation
Justin is survived by his daughter, Nyah Isom; his parents, Karen and Anthony (Mayme) Isom; his sister, Lauren (John) Isom-Marshall; grandmothers, Melba Bryan and Helen Isom; Aunt Bunni (Darrick) Cole; uncles, Lee Isom and Spencer (Andria) Isom; his brother-like cousins, Bryan Dortch and Jordan (Emily) Isom; niece, Penelope Marshall; cousins, Charissa, Spencer II, Annie, Armani, Aven, and Grayson; stepsisters, LaChandra (Max) Davis and Shalonda Hendrix; his brother-like step-nephews, Jamari (Nawanna), John (Tierra), De Anthony, and DeWayne; step-nieces, Jayla and Leia; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
