Julio's obituary

Julio Desir, Sr., 81, of Redford, Michigan, passed away on February 5th, 2022.

Julio was born on July 22nd, 1940 to Mullery Desir and Luména Jean-Baptiste in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. After graduating from Jean Marie-Guilloux and Lycee Petion in Haiti, he went on to study Engineering at Newark New Jersey Institute of Technology and Political Science at Long Island University. After graduation, Julio landed his first job at Standard Products/Cooper Standard, beginning in New York until his retirement in Michigan as a Product Manager in the Prototype Department after 37 years.

In February 1968, he met Mona Honorat, and they wed on July 20th, 1968, going on to have five children, Julio Jr., Christian-Bernard, Jonathan, Cassie, Maggie, and eight beloved grandchildren.

Julio was both a giant in stature and personality, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Julio was also passionate about cars, both personally and professionally. He holds several patents for inventions he created to enhance the performance of various vehicles including the Dodge Viper and the Jeep Wrangler. When he wasn’t working on one of his cars in his office or the driveway, he could often be found watching the news, playing dominoes or Bezique, shopping for deals, or tending to his beloved backyard.

Anyone who knew Julio knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Julio was predeceased by his father, Mullery, mother, Luméma, brother, Raymond, sister, Marie-Alourdes, and son, Christian. He is survived by his wife Mona, sister Gertha Desir, sister Claudette Desir Avin, and four children Julio Jr., Jonathan, Cassie, Maggie, and his eight grandchildren.

The family requests that instead of flowers and gifts, please donate to the Children of Haiti Enhancement Foundation. Visit the website at https://coheffoundation.org or call 786-208-0957 for more information.

Additionally, there will be a Celebration of Life service for family and friends on Julio’s birthday, July 22, 2022, in Redford, Michigan (details to come).
