Juanita's obituary
Juanita Reed, 83, was born in Hogansville, Georgia on December 27, 1937, to Freeman and Hattie Pearl Johnson. She is the third of five children. Their family eventually moved to Atlanta, Georgia where they were raised and grew up.
Juanita married her sweetheart Philmore Reed, Jr. in 1956. After welcoming their first two children, they moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1959 to make a new life. Their family grew, adding six more children to their happy line-up. Together they raised their family and years later moved back to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue their goals in 1981. Juanita worked for over 20 years as an Executive Hospitality Manager for several Fortune 500 companies – and retired from Manhattan Associates, Inc. in 2005.
In the sixties, Juanita began to study the Bible and dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses - September 27, 1969. She spent many years faithfully serving Jehovah God. In those years she zealously gave her time in the ministry, Auxiliary Pioneering (Cleveland and Atlanta). She loved to preach the word of God. She helped teach people Bible truths, transforming their lives to dedication and baptism. She shared her love for Jehovah with all she met, and she never met a stranger! Juanita was a caring and selfless person with a beautiful kindness that drew you closer to her. Although a mother of eight, she was a mother to many. Sharing her life experiences and giving wise counsel that made you want to be a better person. Juanita always had a huge heart with a desire to help everyone she could.
Juanita loved her large family, which always included her extended family and friends. She loved to cook, and everyone loved her cooking! She kept a warm home, welcoming all to dine at her table. You were not allowed to leave hungry or empty-handed. She had many special recipes, only she could cook to perfection, that would leave you craving for more! Juanita had a love for plants, gardening and fresh flowers. A lover of many music genres. Her favorite color was blue. An avid Falcons and Braves fan. She enjoyed watching and attending golf tournaments – a Tiger Woods fan. She enjoyed walks on the beach at sunrise. She loved to travel. Her excursions took her throughout the USA and abroad - and did so for many years before she became sick.
Juanita passed peacefully at home on June 16, 2021, after a long, tough fight with Alzheimer’s. She is preceded in death by her parents – Freeman & Hattie Pearl; brothers – Robert & Melvin; sister – Maudestine; ex-husband – Philmore; children – Gary, Phillip, and Deborah. Juanita leaves behind to cherish her loving memories her youngest sister – Barbara Ann; her remaining children – Sheila, Jeffrey, Phyllis, Derrick and Tara. Her 5 grandchildren – Jeanetta, Jason, LaKara, Kiara, Teaira; 6 great grandchildren – Shantae, Ralph, Michael, Dominique, Faith, and DeAngelo; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends, as well as her loving spiritual brothers and sisters around the world.
Juanita is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who know and love her. She is now in Jehovah’s memory, waiting for the day she will be resurrected – when her eyes are opened, her body and mind will be new (John 5: 28,29). No more sickness (Isaiah 33:24); no more pain or death (Revelation 21:3,4). These are a few of the promises of Jehovah God, Bible truths Juanita shared with many. Paradise is soon to come! May we all be there to welcome Juanita back – with open arms and tears of joy! Until then, keep your memories of Juanita as treasures in your hearts. May Jehovah give us the strength to endure.
