Joseph's obituary
Joseph Alan Kolk, 52, originally of Holland, Michigan, passed away on February 21, 2026, after a brief illness. His life was marked by quiet, steadfast service and an ability to bring calm and reassurance to those around him.
Born in 1973, Joe spent his childhood years on the lakes of Michigan, later attending Hope College, where he studied history, nurturing a fascination with the little-known stories and quirky details he enjoyed sharing with others throughout his life. Joe made his home in St. Louis starting in 1996. He was a devoted husband and father who embraced the opportunity to stay at home to raise his children after the twins arrived in 2010, and remained deeply involved in their schools and activities.
Joe found great purpose in helping others, especially through his work at Saint Louis University during the pandemic, when he became a source of stability and encouragement for students and staff in uncertain times. A former DJ and lifelong audiophile, he also thrived in his role as a sound and events producer at Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he sought to provide special support to each person he encountered. Joe’s most-cherished way of caring for others, however, was through cooking; few things brought him more joy than lovingly preparing a meal for his family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Heidi Aronson Kolk, their three children, his immediate and extended family, and many friends, who will deeply miss his gentle nature, his sense of humor, and his unwavering support––and also the comfort he brought simply by being present.
The family invites all who knew him to join in celebrating his life at a service to take place at 10:00 a.m. on March 7, 2026, at Memorial Presbyterian Church, 201 South Skinker Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by making a donation to the World Central Kitchen ( https://wck.org ) or simply offering a moment of calm or providing a meal to someone in need.
