Anne and her father, good tim…
Anne and her father, good times in the garden :-) — with Anne Benmouyal

Uncle José was a kind and welcoming man. He accepted being my godfather despite his birth religion and his exploration of different understandings of life.

I’ll always remember his love for cooking,  gardening, the radio and his companionship to my Aunt Ann and his favorite dog Dersou. He always gave us space to bond and welcomed us into his home whenever we visited from Barbados.

One memory that stands out is when he took me to his favorite Bajan restaurant, 39 Steps, for a nephew-niece dinner. A middle-aged man and a 7-year-old—it could have been awkward but he filled the evening with jokes and smiles.

Rest in peace, Uncle José.

So many memories. I will always miss our talks about various subjects like what he was cooking, growing in the garden and news on the pear tree and how many pears it produced annually. A great loss to all his family and friends. He will live on in me.

An unimaginable loss to his wife, Ann, and his family.  Gone too soon.

Love from Adeline

I first met José in High School . Even at that young age he was an extremely interesting and talented person. We remained lifelong friends and his death has left an unfillable hole in my heart. He will always live in my heart and my mind.  Love always, Adeline
