John's obituary
John (Captain Jack) Slattery, 81, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away on December 30, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.
He was born on December 4, 1941, to the late Patrick and Mary Slattery. He is survived by his brothers Edward Slattery, Kevin Slattery, and Terry Slattery; his son Sean Slattery and daughter Keri Hayston; grandchildren Alanna Owens, Steven Slattery, Koren Slattery, and Olivia Hayston and great-grandchildren Liam Slattery and Lillian Slattery. He leaves behind many special family members and countless friends he held close to his heart, all who have at least one card, one note, or one thoughtful letter from him as he never forgot your special occasions.
John would tell you himself he lived a full life, doing all of the things he wanted to do. He spent most of his early life in Massachusetts, relocated to the Florida Keys in 1990, and enjoyed many beautiful sunsets from his houseboat before settling in Port Charlotte. John always had an adventurous outlook on life and spent many years boating, camping, traveling cross country on his motorcycle, and singing a song or two while he played along on his guitar. He loved to go “birding” with his brother Ed and for many years kept a healthy competition running. You could also find him singing karaoke with his friend Gloria. John maintained many special friendships throughout the years and made new friends along his travels; He will always be remembered for his quirky humor, epitomizing “Dad” jokes, and his genuine love and caring for all that held a place in his heart.
As he would say when he was proud, Atta- boy, girl!! John, all who loved you were proud to know you.
When we meet again, we will all give you a “noogie.” ❤️
