John's obituary

John Robert Rand, 78, of Beechmont QLD, Australia, passed away on 25th November, 2022.



John was born on 7th September 1944  to John Henry and Callista Rand in Brisbane, Qld.  After graduating, top of his year, from Marist Brothers College in 1961, he went on to study a Bachelor of Science, followed by a Master of Science in Entomology at the University of Queensland.


After graduation, he secured a job as an Entomologist with the NSW Department of Agriculture and worked in this role for 14 years.  John's career changed direction when he moved to Brisbane and entered into a partnership with his father in-law Harry Giesen,  ultimately, together establishing a very successful financial planning business which spanned 20 years.  In 1965, he met the love of his life Barbara (Bobbie) Giesen, and they wed in 1969, going on to have 3 children, James, Megan and William.  This was later followed by 8 grandchildren- Nicholas, Lara-Madeline, Thomas, John, Adam, Catie, Eleanor and Harry.  John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He always put his family first and always tried his best to support them.  He was extremely proud of his family.  His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned.   Anyone who knew John knew him to be an intelligent, honest, proud and loyal friend who was a good conversationalist and a skilled public speaker.  He had many friends and was well loved.  John was predeceased by John Henry and Callista Rand. He is survived by Barbara, James, Megan, William, Nicholas, Lara-Madeline, Thomas, John, Adam, Catie, Eleanor and Harry.  There will be a memorial/celebration of John's life on 4th December 2022 at 2.30pm at 30 Farm Grove Rd Beechmont Qld.
