I want to thank each of you who joined us, in person or in spirit, to celebrate the life my son. I’ve always known my son was amazing, but then, I’m his mom after all! To hear the wonderful stories from so many of you, and the impact his life had on yours, was a bright rainbow in the gray storm. I believe that something all of us have learned from our too short a time with him, is to embrace the gift of this life we have, for every moment we have it.

The twins and I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who joined us in honoring Hodad's life, standing alongside his family. It was truly heartwarming to listen to the stories that highlighted the profound impact Hodad had on each of your lives. Every person in the room last night played a significant role in shaping both his personal and professional path. It truly warms our hearts to see a part of Hodad living on within each of you.

Hodad was so talented but always so humble. He created the album covers for all the incarnations of the bands my brother Ricardo and I played in, from Rubberneck to Toque Libre to Sabroso. He also created t-shirts, stickers, etc. that everyone loved! I still run into people that own a Rubberneck shirt from 20 years ago! We’ll miss you Hodad.

Hodad and I were creating a whole new visual language for DeMarini togther. It was truly amazing. We were building a visual language book. These were some of the pages we had put up to see how it was going to look. Ill never forget it, we both were so excited. — with Hodad

I want to say first off, that I am so sorry to Hodad's family and friends. Our relationship goes back over 25 years. We first met at the Forestry Center after a design talk I was giving. We connected immediately. From that point on we continued discussions around creative ideas and daily life. We would consistently run design ideas by each other. Hodad was a grounding center for me. I knew I could run an unedited idea by him and he would keep me honest. Working together was truly a magical experience. Side by side we would execute creative and share with each other only to get into a deeper conversation and go back to produce something either of us had never seen. For me that was the beauty in being with him, I knew we would politely elevate one another and by the end of the day we were standing in front of something amazing, it would be so good that it was hard to say good night because we were so excited. Im always going to have that "go-to" with Hodad. Ill think of him when the magical creative times arise. He was one of the few creative people that really understood the deep creative process. We knew one another. Im going to really miss that. Hodad was one of the most accepting people I have ever met. I respected that about him and looked up to him for his ability to keep it all cool. He is a true, true friend and a partner. Hodad gave me a deep connection, respect and leadership in my career, thank you for that buddy. I think he probably touched all our lives in a magical way and that is the love he shared with all of us. Cant thank you enough for all the great ideas, the work and your friendship Hodad. Hodad’s Chair

I joined DeMarini at the end of 1996 as an engineer. Frequently, Ray DeMarini would come into my office to discuss softball bat development. One day he came and told me he had just hired a graphic designer. As part of his interview the designer had requested a special chair. Ray seemed quite surprised by the request for this chair but finally commented that if he wants a special chair then he would buy him this special chair because “he’s good- this kid is good”.
