Maryann,
I just became aware of John's passing; my heart hurts with yours. He was such a good man. He had character, integrity, grit, I could go on and on! I know when he entered heaven, God said to him, "Job well done my good and faithful servant!"
Noah and I both miss you, your friendly smile and kind eyes! We will keep you in our prayers! Blessings always, Bethie and Noah❤️✝️

John touched the lives of my family in many ways. He was a phy. ed. teacher to my daughter, Elizabeth. Mary Ann was her kindergarten teacher. John and Mary Ann came to Elizabeth's graduation party in 2018, which meant so much to all of us. Both were colleagues of mine as teachers in Big Lake, and I loved seeing John during his 'retirement' years at Indy. Rest in peace, Mr. Haskell. You made the world a much better place through your warmth, positivity, and acceptance of others. Prayers and condolences to you, Mary Ann, and the entire family.

1991, Big Lake High School, Minnesota
My deepest sympathies to Coach Haskell's family and friends. Although I have not lived in Minnesota for 34 years, Big Lake High School will always be a cherished part of my soul growing up, and Coach Haskell remains a part of a new chapter of my life today, as a coach for the brand new sport at my high school, female flag football! In 1990, it was RARE to see a female anywhere on the football field, but Coach allowed me the incredible opportunity to be part of a world females were not. In reading his obituary that his masters degree had an emphasis of " Sports Psychology & Gender Bias Female Athletes Endure", I can appreciate now as an educator how ahead of his time he was. In 1990, I got to be the first BLHS female team manager with a variety of duties while on the sidelines where I learned inside intel in how the game works from all view points, as well as the passion required to be part of this sport. I still have my #22 jersey today, a jersey made with my volleyball number. I also wish to express my extra love to MaryAnn (which I say with much difficulty, as my 5th grade childhood brain still wants to say Miss Danzl even all these years later). I also remember my love for her as a child, and how excited we all were for our beautiful princess beloved Mrs. Danzl and the handsome Coach Haskell were getting married. I have deep regrets in not reaching out to Coach Haskell in telling him of my flag girls being international champions this year, but I know that he will be cheering our Staley High School Falcons (Kansas City) on from above this next season. We have our first football camp next week, and I will be sharing with my team about Coach Haskell's passing and having a moment of silence with them in his honor. I think he would be delighted to see this is no powder puff. These girls are fierce athletes. I do not know if he would be impressed that we are sponsored by the Chiefs, being a Minnesota guy, but perhaps he would like to know the female he allowed to be on the sidelines 34 years ago is now on the payroll of the current Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, as they pay my coaching salary. To be clear, I had no football athletic talent, just a love for the game. Coach allowed a female to feel she belongs on the sideline of a football field, or anywhere else she wants to be. Thank you. Sending all of your hearts love during this difficult time.

Mary Ann and Family, My heart felt sympathy to all of you for your loss. John was one of the first members of the Big Lake staff to introduce himself 30 years ago. He was a man of integrity, discipline, and work ethic. He also had a very soft side and a good sense of humor. He was a man I respected. I liked John very much and will hold good memories of him.

My condolences to MaryAnn and the rest of John's family. I had the privilege of working with "Hask" as a fellow educator in Big Lake. John was one of the biggest supporters of Big Lake schools. He always greeted you with a smile and firm handshake. From Friday breakfast at Lake Cafe, golfing in the Doc Smock scramble, to fishing on Mille Lacs Launch trips, John always approached every adventure with enthusiasm and a story to tell. He had a great impact on many lives in this town and will be missed.

John was an influencer! He certainly influenced my life and started me on a lifelong commitment to lifting weights and staying in good health. One of my favorite memories of John was at one of our Big Lake teacher gatherings where he broke out into song, singing his rendition of House of The Rising Sun. I am grateful for having known John in my life. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
