John was a great man and a great friend. Craig & I have some very special memories of him that we hold dear. Patty & family-you are in out thoughts.
To a very dear friend we will miss your smile and your gregarious personality. We will always remember all the dinners, card games, boating, trips, and the fun times the four of us shared. You will always be in our hearts. Love you

Kathy,  I’m so sorry for your tremendous loss.  I know how much John meant to you.  My prayers for peace.
John and I were in the. first class that went from kindergarten to 8th grade  at St Patrick Grade School.  Oh the antics that only John could perform!  It  is a wonder that all the nuns did not have heart attacks,  John was the class comedian.  My prayers and thoughts are with the Cogley family.  Mary Alice Kilnoski Daly

Hello Cogley Family.  I also grew up in Council Bluffs, and attended Creighton Prep with John.  In fact, I rode to school every day in Junior and Senior years in John's car.  He had maybe the "hottest "61(?) Chevy Impala in the city.  He drove it like a Nascar driver.  He actually replaced the stick transmission with a Hurst "4 on the Floor" transmission.  He was a talented mechanic.  We had many double dates and adventures together in those years.  We got into our share of trouble together, including my first (and last) initiation to drinking Schlitz Beer.  John was concerned about my Father's reaction to that event, so he literally dropped me on my front lawn and burned rubber for a block down Avenue C to get away!  We both caught some heat for that activity.  We had other adventures together, including water skiing behind his speed boat.  If you knew John, you knew you were going to get the ride of your life behind that ski boat! (He never let us down.)  John and I actually had made plans to room together at Iowa State after graduation.  But I received an appointment to West Point, and we sadly parted ways.  We touched base with each other on occasion, but not enough times, and sort of lost touch.  But when I was being treated for Prostate Cancer in 2019, I received a phone call from John and we spent time catching up.  That was a great experience for both of us to learn about our families and the challenges we faced together.  After that call, we continued to talk on a regular basis.  That has been a source of joy and comfort for me.  I was so sad and broken to receive a call from Kathy when he suddenly passed.  It is a huge loss for us all.  I want to wish Patty, all of the kids and grandkids, and to Kathy my sincere condolences.  I am praying for you all, and share your loss.  May the Good Lord welcome my Friend John into His kingdom, and send comfort to his family.  God bless.
