John's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Cheetham, who left us on January 13, 2024. Born on May 7, 1948, John lived a life steeped in kindness, generosity and selfless devotion to his loved ones and his work.

John was a real gentleman to anyone he met, wearing a warm smile that could light up any room. His hearty laughter and funny anecdotes never failed to bring joy to those around him. Moreover, his generosity knew no bounds. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, and his selflessness was a trait that he carried throughout his life.

Survived by his devoted wife, Mary Cheetham, and his loving sons, Matthew and Andrew Cheetham, his daughter-in-law Mai Cheetham and grand-daughter, Heidi, John was a pillar of love and commitment to his family. He worked hard for his family, and committed himself to being the best husband and father he could be. His approach of maintaining high standards in work and selflessly sharing knowledge and expertise have left a profound influence on his colleagues.

John's work ethic and dedication were evident in his impressive career as an engineer and inspector. Landmark projects included working on the Channel Tunnel boring machine and the Thames Barrier, projects that needed his skills, knowledge and hard work as part of a team to be realised.

John's legacy is an enduring memory of kindness and a perennial lesson on how to be a true gentleman. His love, warmth, and wisdom will be profoundly missed, but his spirit and memories will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
