Jessie's obituary

Jessie Roldan Pelayo passed peacefully on June 18, 2025 at home, surrounded by his family in Tustin, CA

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, Manong, and uncle, Jessie Roldan Pelayo passed away peacefully, leaving behind a profound legacy of love, generosity, and laughter. Jessie’s vibrant spirit and unwavering kindness touched countless lives, illuminating every room he entered with a smile that instantly made strangers into friends.

Proudly Filipino, Jessie dedicated his life to lifting others, helping anyone in need, whether connected by family ties or the bond of shared heritage. Co-founder of JS Contractor, he and his siblings empowered countless Filipinos to find better opportunities abroad.

Jessie was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, bringing people together for joyful celebrations and community gatherings—from weekend barbecues to 4th of July parades. One of our fondest memories of Dad was when he brought the first Ati-Atihan to Juneau, AK. Kids and adults alike, painted our bodies black, put on grass costumes, and marched through downtown Juneau AK as loudly as possible with whistles, chants and drums that you could hear a half mile away. You could see the fright on peoples faces turn to curiousity, then fun, and eventually admiration. We would dance in the streets and pull people in to join. It was one of many things that endeared Alaskans to our Filipino culture. We would go on to win best in parade year after year.

Jessie’s deepest pride was his family, nurturing his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and community members to pursue greater dreams and brighter futures. He is survived by his loving wife Divina Pelayo; his children Joann Pelayo, Joseph Pelayo, Jesse Pelayo Jr., and Janina Pelayo-Getlin; grandsons Javin and James Pelayo; and siblings Mary Jean Borra, Jenerie P. Gan, and Jenette Esguerra. He is predeceased by his parents Roberto and Felipa Pelayo and younger brother, Captain Jolie R. Pelayo.

Jessie’s family asks that his life be celebrated joyfully, honoring his legacy with gratitude, laughter, and love. In Dad's steadfast words, "take it easy and take care of each other (In Tagalog: Ingat kayo)."
