James's obituary

James "Jim" O’Neill was born on October 1, 1953 in Chicopee, Massachusetts to Leo and Mable O'Neill.

From an early age, Jim was immensely curious and a natural problem solver. He excelled in academics, graduating early from high school to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute where his love for computers was born when he literally stumbled into the computer lab one night.

In 1980, Jim drove across the country to Seattle to be near his sister Candace, who would later introduce him to Mimi. They married on Vashon Island in 1983 and two years later welcomed triplets, Tom, Dave and Carmen.

He went on to have a storied career, working on some of the most pioneering technologies of the last 30 years. Alongside his technical achievements, Jim was known by his colleagues as a steadfast advocate for their careers and wellbeing.

After he retired, Jim enjoyed tinkering on cars, completing Sunday crossword puzzles, and savoring life on Lake Sammamish.

Jim is remembered for always supporting his loved ones. Generous with his time and resources, Jim devoted his life to improving the lives of those around him. Through it all, Jim was a dedicated husband, caring father, and goofy "grand dad".

Before his passing, Jim spent five days with his family celebrating the holidays and cooking homemade Pierogis, a tradition from his Polish family. He passed away in his sleep on December 27, 2025 in Sammamish, Washington.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Mimi; his children, Tom, Dave, and Carmen; his grandchildren, Ellis, Abner, and Eli; his sister Candace, and his dog Sophie.
