I have fond memories with Jake as we grew up together- including summers at KarJoJohn's (a resort on MilleLacs Lake our families would rent out), Thanksgiving Hayrides at Don and Connie's home in St. Francis, and time fishing at the cabin in Aitkin.
One memory that stands out was a St. Patrick’s Day celebration around 2013 or 2014 at Uncle Joe and Aunt Alison’s house. As always, everyone was decked out in green, and I remember Jake’s oldest children, Donny and Abby, sitting at the table teaching all of us adults about recycling. Their knowledge at such a young age was so impressive, and I remember noticing how proud their parents seemed. Truly, I think we all felt proud and impressed by them that day.
Though Jake and I didn't stay in touch often- he did text me recently to congratulate me on my recent engagement. It was a nice and thoughtful surprise to hear from him.
I am saddened by his passing and will remember him fondly. My heart is with all who loved him and will miss him. -Tessa (Jake's cousin)

Jake was a fabulous nephew and is forever connected to me. He seemed to always be happy and fun loving; he loved his children to the max. He endured life’s challenges as well as anyone, better than most because he had a survivor instinct that made him a dedicated father. I extend my condolences and will forever miss him. He really loved and appreciated Erica who was a Godsend to him. Jake really wanted to go fishing with me in August and I am so sorry for not having that memory. We canceled once do to rain and Jake said- “ Heck Uncle Joe - fisherman don’t care if it rains”.
