When meeting such a beautiful soul for the first time you never think about what life will be like without them. You just live in the present the way you always have. I got to meet Jackson, a beautiful soul, this semester for the first time. I had the pleasure of being introduced to him by my new roommates and now best friends. My first impression of him was the best I’ve ever experienced with someone. He was so happy, bright, and his presence just gave off this comforting warmth. Even though our time together was short I’ll never forget his upbeat personality and that goofy laugh. I can recall a night spent around our kitchen island eating and talking about everything under the sun with our friends. I shared so many things in common with him and the things we had and were still experiencing. The happiness and laughter that filled that tiny island will always remain with me. As I write this, I am listening to one of his last radio shows at his high school fighting back tears. He states at one point “It is such a beautiful day for a finale”. This great loss has impacted so many people including myself and I cannot say that it is beautiful at all; however I can say that he shared his beautiful soul, personality, hugs, compassion, and laughter with everyone he met even just in passing. He was beautiful in every way and in this finale that will always be how I remember him. I wish I had longer to get to know this amazing man and that I would have cherished are moments more instead of just living in the present not knowing our days together as friends would be short. I send my condolence out to his friends and family. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that as I continue on, I am able to make Jackson proud and keep his memory alive.

While I did not know Jackson well I had the pleasure of seeing him in a play by lander players and later on meeting him officially when he came over to do homework with my roommates. He was automatically so welcoming and sweet and whenever I’d see him on campus he’d always say hi. He has such a good heart and I’ll always remember him as a bright spirit to those around him.

I don't have pictures of Jackson and I but I have lots of memories of him. My fondest ones are of whenever I would see him he would always ask me if he could hug me because he always loved to hug me and he would say that when he saw me he got so happy but I was always happy when I saw him. I also remember the improv meetings we would have. He always made them so fun and exciting even if no one was having a good day. I'll always miss him giving me a hug and hugging him back and always making the days fun and exciting.

At a random chance-meeting di…
At a random chance-meeting dinner we had in the Lander Cafeteria last year, Jackson Wise said, “I just DONT KNOW HOW we managed to get people like this, so talented, at our liiiittle itty bitty school.” It’s been something rolling around in my mind lately- how did this little bitty school manage to get someone as incredible, passionate, artistic, creative, supernova of a superstar as Jackson Russell Wise? I have no doubt in my mind that it was by no coincidence that he sneak attacked his way into all of our lives because wow, are we the better for it. I met Jackson at a Theater meeting and his energy during introductions was unlike any I had ever seen before. I interviewed him immediately for an article and learned that not only would I be working with him on stage but in our Radio Station. How exciting to know that the Sun would always be up wherever Jackson was- something so many of us need. He is family, from working on promos, homework, and teaching him how to use him camera- to ‘family dinners,’ walks around Greenwood, and “some-day” brunches. Jackson is the natural arugula growing in the middle of nowhere, the wild double rainbow, the deer (or as he called them, wood dogs) poking through the trees, the random thought that makes you smile off guard, and the feeling of warm Sun Rays on a perfect day. I love you, Jackson. Thank you.

2020
I took this during one of our Tuesdays dedicated to Photography homework. Our friend Megan took Jackson and I to Grace St. Park for the first time. Neither of us had ever been until then. Jackson was taking photos and I told him pause right there so I could get this shot. I turned submitted it for my assignment and our instructor loved it. That day was one that started to solidify our friendship as one that became so meaningful to me.

Jackson and I took this photo after he bought me lunch for my birthday. We had just taken photos with some friends of ours for a birthday photoshoot. We were also taking photos for our photography assignment which is something we did together every Tuesday. Jackson insisted on buying us pizza before we left. I’m glad we decided to have dinner with him because it’s one of the many memories I’ll have with him. I’m so incredibly blessed to have known this shining, gentle, hurricane of a human. Not only was he the sweetest kid I’ve met but he was so encouraging and ecstatic about everything we did together. I was told about Jackson before I got to meet him. One of our professors told me that there was this kid with a similar writing style to mine. I later learned that kid was Jackson. It wasn’t long after that before I actually met him and joined the improv club, his writing team for the radio drama Historitorical, and from there I just got to grow closer and closer to him. I had no idea that the bubbly person I met in the radio station would be such a close friend of mine and one that I am always going to miss.

Words cannot express the grief of losing such a spirited young man. My sincerest condolences to his family on their precious and beloved son...

I had the pleasure of teaching Jackson in my Public Speaking and my Voice and Diction class. He was always eager to present and was always well prepared. He was also one of those rare students who liked to think out of the box and would share all kinds of ideas with me. One of his speeches he gave was on the importance of having a Lovey or stuffed animal even as an adult. He talked about how they can provide comfort. He was even considering buying everyone a stuffed animal in the class so they could have one of their own.
Another story I remember most recently was in my Voice and Diction class when he gave a speech presentation filled with his usual theatrical flare and energy. He always gave 150% + to all his assignments.
In both my classes I especially enjoyed seeing his friendship with Joe. Jackson supported Joe, as well as cajoled him in a playful manner if he didn't do the assignment just so. They had a friendly and humorous competition.
Jackson was also one of the first students in my class this semester to volunteer to be my Monitor for the Monologues on Main Street. He was very deligent of making sure to sterilize the seats for the audiences that would arrive in shifts to hear my performance of Patsy T. Mink. I even ended up using him as a partner at the end of the monologue by addressing one of my lines to him. As a natural actor himself, he would always offer a visible response. After the weekend run was over he told me that thinks he could perform my monologue having heard it 50 times over. We had great conversations that weekend that included questions on language, ideas on how to get the Lander Players more active, plus the challenges of outdoor theatre, and how he enjoyed being a part of this project.

Jackson to me was always filled with energy, passion, creative, and a desire to make the world a better place for those he felt were misrepresented. His mind was constantly thinking, planning, and exploring.

It is very difficult to know he will no longer be in my classes let alone in our lives. His memory will surely survive through those whose lives he has touched, and his presence will be felt even in the silence of his voice.
Rest in peace Jackson...you are loved and missed.

He was a very kind and caring person pushing others to reach their goal. We bumped into each other a couple times and everytime he always had a smile on his face. WE WILL ALL MISS HIM!

A selfie we took when he was my Monitor for the Monologues on Main Street performances. I said we needed to open our eyes wide because when we smiled with masks on we squinted too much. We were giggling throughout these pictures.
I didn't know Jackson as well as some of his faculty at Lander, but I am grieving nonetheless. I saw him several times a week as he went into the XLR station across from my office, sometimes stopping by to borrow my key. He was always smiling, always laughing, always talking about his latest creative projects. We will miss him

Jackson Wise was one of the first people I met at Lander. He was such a kind and soft soul. He encouraged me to join our Lander XLR radio program and supported my show from its beginning. He always knew how to light up a room and to make people feel comfortable in his presence. I wish I was able to have gotten more close to him but I always knew he would be there for me if I ever needed him. Thank you for encouraging me and being such a kind and comforting friend. Rest In Peace Jackson Wise. You will be greatly missed💛
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Jackson was a pleasure to have in band at Wren while I was drum major. I distinctly remember him always being ready to go and giving his best effort every time, with a smile on his face. I’m also glad to have spent some time with him and Mark one night to eat supper and talk about working in media. He was very attentive and asked some great questions. I’m glad he was able to pursue and enjoy it! Praying for peace and comfort during this time.
God bless-
Codie Sloan

Susan, Mark, Kelsey...Beckman
& Wise families-
Please know our hearts are feeling bruised and sad as we pray and think of you from afar.
A couple things i think about ...
- Most every time Susan spoke of Jackson, she was laughing. It will be hard to laugh like that for a while... but i believe you will laugh again... he left you with quite a legacy of funny.. what a gift you all have to draw from.
- Jackson’s love and concern for all. He was always pulling for the underdog. What an example❤️
What a gift of a boy!
Bless you.
Fondly and with deep sympathy,

I'll never forget how he would walk into Mrs. Wise's classroom and tell all of us girls how beautiful we were. He'd always start a conversation with one or more of us. It would always make my day. Rip Jackson

I will never forget walking into one of the elementary school classes (3rd grade, I think) as a mom & Jackson stopping me & saying, “Ms. Freeman, you look beautiful!” The only kid that has ever told me that, for sure. He was certainly one of a kind and will be greatly missed.
