Howard's obituary
“How are you today?”
That was the text Dr. Howard Duchon, DDS sent to his loved ones every Sunday — an invitation to talk about anything and everything. More than just a greeting, it was his way of checking in, a gentle reminder to pause and notice how we’re really doing in the moment. It’s a question his family will always carry with them, an enduring piece of his love and presence.
Howard passed away on August 22, 2025, at the age of 81.
He was born on June 4, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Peter and Helen Duchon, and the youngest of three children in a family that later moved to Miami. He grew up alongside his brother Norman and sister Marlene, and was a proud graduate of Miami Senior High and the University of Miami. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry.
After dental school, Howard served as a Captain in the U.S. Army as a dentist at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before returning home to open his practice in Hialeah. From 1972 until 2005, Dr. Duchon cared for generations of families with warmth, skill, and dedication. He also gave back to the community through his work at the Miami Jewish Hospital and the Florida Dental Association.
Howard was a lifelong Miami Hurricanes fan, a voracious reader, and someone who found joy in music of all kinds. Above all, he was a father and grandfather who cherished his family.
He is survived by his children Scott and Joyce, Julie, Holden and Melissa, along with his grandchildren Gage, Zach, Zuzu, Ella, and Ethan.
And in his honor, maybe ask someone you love: “How are you today?”
