On Christmas day 1976 or 1977, my crew was on duty at Camp 8.  We started the day by sitting in the recreation room watching TV, that at the time was located on the far south side of the camp's office building.  As we sat there watching TV we could hear a noise outside that sounded like the camp's large tree chipper warming up.  Before any of us got up to look outside to see what was going on, Horst burst into the room, grabbed our decorated Christmas tree, dragged it outside and proceeded to run it through the now fully running chipper.  A short time later Horst reappeared with a large cardboard box that now held the remains of our Christmas tree and placed it in the same location it where it once stood.  Before he left he looked at all of us and said with a grin on his face, "Merry Christmas __________  ____________s" before rushing back out of the room.  After he left we looked at each other stunned before busting out in laughter on what we had just witnessed.  I found out later that someone on one of the crews had pranked Horst a few months earlier and that running our Christmas tree through the chipper was pay back.   One of the best things I remember about Horst was his great sense of humor.
