It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hank Wiebe, a beloved Christian man, of Abbotsford, BC. Hank died peacefully at 86 years old in the Menno Home extended care on March 23, 2023.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Doreen, three children, Colleen (Darren), Janice (Philippe), and Brian (Liz), seven grandchildren, Sheree (Cade), Chantelle (Dylan), Curtis, Nathan (Sam), Fynn, Piper, Lulu, Owen and Milo, two great-grandchildren Savannah and Olivia. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary (Ernie), Agnes (Arnold) and many in-laws on Hank’s side and Doreen’s side. He is predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Hank was born on December 21, 1936 in Adelsheim, Ukraine. His family fled across Europe during World War II when Hank was six years old. The family left Germany for Canada by train and then ship when Hank was 11 years old in 1948. He grew up in Kelowna with his family, went to Briercrest Bible School after high school, then moved to Vancouver, and met Doreen in Killarney Mennonite Brethren Church in 1965, and they married in 1967.

Hank had various interesting jobs since high school. A year after marriage, Hank and Doreen ventured up north to Fort Nelson, built a motel on the Alaska highway, and lived there almost ten years. After starting a family, Hank and Doreen moved to Kelowna with their three children ready for their next adventure. By this time Hank had become an avid builder and found inspiration to start Scandia Golf and Games! After nine years, Hank and Doreen and their partners sold the business.

Hank and Doreen went on to find land in Abbotsford in 1988 and started building Wonderland Amusement Park which would become Castle Fun Park and the place for Hank, the dreamer, to create many attractions, memories and fun over the next 30 plus years, for guests to enjoy for long after. He loved expressing his unique interests and creative abilities. Hank was a man with an unwavering confidence to pursue whatever he put his mind to. During these years, Hank loved to share his faith, was very generous and made it his passion to support projects for sharing the gospel. The foundation in his beliefs was a guiding light that shone throughout all aspects of his life. He was kind-hearted and got along with all types of people. Hank was known for his joking around, playfulness and teasing all his life including his last days. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his strong faith, his contributions, his love for God, community, family and friends. He touched the lives of many people, both through his business and his personal life.

We take comfort in knowing that Hank has gone to his eternal resting place with the Lord. We hope he enjoys riding the big Ferris Wheel in heaven.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Northview Community Church, 32040 Downes Road, Abbotsford, BC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
