Henry's obituary
Please join us in sharing memories of Henry (Hank) Feir, a dear friend, colleague, and family member. Hank died in his sleep at home in Austin, Texas on June 8, 2021, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. We will miss his generous spirit, wry wit, and deep knowledge of all things electronic!
Born March 17, 1947 in Springfield, IL, to Hannah and Herman. He attended the University of Iowa, receiving a BA in Marketing and a MA in Journalism, Mass Communication & Human Communication. His participation in the Iowa Program for Human Development led to a long, interesting, multinational career in human resources for companies such as Apple, Digital Equipment Corporation, Form Factor, and others. While serving as Head of Sales and Services for Apple Europe in Paris, Hank developed a lifelong interest in international travel.
Hank was also an experienced Company and Startup Executive and Coach with a unique combination of experience in startups, medium and large companies, including:
• CEO/COO for three software start-ups
• Raising investment funds from VC's, angels and strategic partners
• Senior VP of Human Resources in a global public company
Hank had substantial experience consulting and building management teams and country structures in the U.S., Europe, Asia. After moving to Austin, Hank began working with the founders, CEO's and the leadership teams of startups and companies seeking to accelerate their growth to the next stage, as well as nonprofits.
Hank loved the fine things in life. He had an extensive collection of contemporary art and served on art museum boards in San Francisco and Austin. He travelled extensively, loved great food and fine wines, and was a devoted SF Giants fan. Hank developed a large group of friends over the years, both international and domestic, that he enjoyed staying in touch with through his travels and by phone. His calls and visits will be missed!
Hank will be especially missed by his sister, Elaine Perman (Arnold); niece, Carrie Perman; nephew, Craig Perman (Tara), and their children Ellis and Rosie; as well as his unadopted “son” in Singapore, Erik Gunawan.
