Flo's obituary

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Florentino "Flo" Hernandez II, on the 8th of April, 2024. Born on November 24, 1966 in Modesto, CA and a life-long resident of the valley, Flo was a cherished figure to many, his passing leaving a void that can never be filled.

Well-renowned for his unique blend of humor and gravity, Flo stood as a true character. Beneath his loud exuberance, there was a depth of thought and a quiet humility that endeared him to others. He was a hard-working man, devoted to his craft and committed to his values of honesty and ethics. Despite his tough exterior, his heart held an immense capacity for love, care, and concern for others.

Flo's capacity for love extended beyond his family. His friendships were many, diverse, and deep, reflecting his wide-ranging interests and relatable character. He was a beacon of support for many, a testament to his unwavering loyalty.

Besides his personal relationships, another one of Flo's great achievements was his successful career as a businessman. With over 26 years of experience in the newspaper business, Flo was a stalwart in the industry, his counsel valued and his dedication unmatched.

His legacy, however, will reverberate beyond the realms of business and friendship. Flo was a man of principles, living by his tenets of frugality, faithfulness, ethics, and kindness. In the face of adversity, Flo demonstrated his resiliency and ability to survive hardship and his courage to move forward; even when it seemed impossible.  His life serves as an invaluable lesson, his actions a testament to the virtue of living by these principles.

Flo always had a project that he was actively tinkering with consisting of multiple house renovations, pontoon boat, golf cart, old cars, motorcycles and bicycles.  He found immense joy in hosting friends and family over the years; he believed a family that eats together, stays together.  If he wasn't cooking or bbqing; you could find him at a parts counter, searching a parts catalog, or enjoying a cigar at the Cigar Club.  He loved all music, football, baseball, bicycling and fishing.

As we mourn Flo's loss, we also aim to celebrate his life, a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and lessons. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for May 19, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Persuasion Brewing.

In remembering Flo, we remember a man of charm and character, of unwavering values, and endless compassion. We send our deepest condolences to his wife, Amy Hernandez of 18 years, their fur babies (Tuxedo, Holly, Harley, and Harriet) and all who had the privilege to know him. Flo's light may have dimmed, but his memory will continue to illuminate our lives and hearts.
