It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernesto "Ernie" Perez, a loving and devoted husband; an overprotective father; and a caring son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. Born on January 7, 1984, and departing this world on June 29, 2023, Ernie proved that a short life could still be filled with a remarkable volume of love, laughter, and accomplishment. Ernie's life will be forever cherished in the hearts of his survivors: his wife, Tristy Nguyen; their beloved daughter, Scarlett Perez; mother, Patty Perez; and sister, Meghann Perez. He was preceded in death by his father, Osvaldo Perez.

Being a military child, Ernie developed a beacon of strength and resilience early on. His warm spirit and relentless positivity will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was often described as sentimental, goofy, and yet, profoundly kind. Ernie was strong in his faith, which served as a guiding light and provided him with solace and strength. His intelligence and determination were evident in his every pursuit, to include his 4 year battle with colon cancer, which ultimately ended his life.

His life was marked by significant accomplishments, including an esteemed academic career as a Rutgers graduate (always eager to profess his advanced math degree credentials and science knowledge in a debate), as well as the much celebrated birth of his daughter and a cherished marriage. As a father, Ernie found his greatest purpose and happiness in the life of his daughter, Scarlett; he treasured every milestone and every laugh they shared together. His dedication and love for his wife, Tristy, were evident in the way he supported her dreams and aspirations, always being her cheerleader and source of unwavering support. The love he poured into his role as a husband and father was immeasurable and will forever be remembered.

Ernesto was also a devoted 'cat dad' to more than 20 rescue cats that he cared for deeply (drafting detailed and intimate biographies of each to help them find their forever homes). The love and kindness extended to these animals brought great pride and contentment when they were adopted. His absence will be deeply felt, not only by his human relatives and friends but also by his feline companions.

Ernie’s life was a testament to love and perseverance, and his memory should continue to inspire and guide us, as we move forward without him. Rest in peace, Ernie. You will be greatly missed.
