Background
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating to the Erica Frances Kever Memorial Fund to honor her generous spirit. Donations will be distributed to causes important to Erica with the intent of making a lasting impact on those communities most in need. The main goal of the EFK Memorial Fund is to provide crucial resources to the hospital in which she spent her last days.
Mom passed away in intensive care at Queen Ingrid's Hospital in Nuuk, Greenland, a capital with fewer than 20,000 people. The team of doctors and nurses who cared for her were incredible people and gifted care providers but because of the size and resources of the hospital, were helpless to provide the life-saving care she needed. She was specifically in desperate need of Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy, a kidney dialysis intervention that Queen Ingrid's does not have. In fact, there is no CRRT capability in the entire country of Greenland. Critically ill patients in need of this treatment are life-flighted to Copenhagen, a city 5 hours away by plane, and Mom wasn't stable enough for transport. Our intention with this fund is to donate a CRRT machine, training, and operating costs in Erica's name. All funds raised above the target number will be donated in service of other medical supplies, equipment, and training to help future patients in need of the life-saving care she was unable to receive.
