Donna's obituary

Donna Mae Giese Litwinowicz 1930-2024

Donna Mae Giese Litwinowicz, 94 of Terrytown, LA, died on June 21, 2024. She was born in New Ulm, MN in 1930 to Burchard and Loretta Giese, and soon moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota where she spent her childhood.

Donna attended the University of North Dakota for a short time, joining Delta Gamma sorority. She was honored as a 75-year member of Delta Gamma in 2024! She then attended and graduated from the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City, NY. Katherine Gibbs invented the modern-day secretarial training, paving the way for a new breed of executive secretaries.

Donna then moved to Denver, Colorado for her first job out of school. It was in Denver where she met, fell in love with, and married Vince Litwinowicz. They had two children in Denver (John and Joan), then moved to South America and the West Indies for several years. Son Michael was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and son Peter was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Donna and Vince moved to New Orleans in 1964, where child Josephine was born. They remained in New Orleans for the remainder of their lives.

She was a devoted Catholic and regularly attended mass and prayed every day. She was an avid bridge player and grew to love RummiKub and bingo while at Sunrise Senior Living. She also loved her chocolate, ice cream, wine and almost anything else that was sweet.

Donna was preceded in death by husband Vince, and sister Lois, and is survived by sister Eva Jean, children Joan (Gilmore), John (Jane), Michael (Gintare), Peter (Richard) and Josephine, grandchildren Jenny, John, Katie, Ruth, Kaz, Hannah and Jake, step-grandchildren Evelina, Paulis, Kipris and great-grandchildren Alex, Danny, Connor, and Ransom.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers and cards, donations be made to the M.S. Society. "https://donate.nationalmssoci…"

There will be no memorial service or funeral by her immediate family, but they will gather for an intimate dinner to share and celebrate her life. She will be remembered and acknowledged as a loving mother and loyal unselfish friend.
