It was with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of Don. My condolences to his family and my sincere appreciation to Mary Savage for the wonderful narrative about Don’s life.
I first met Don a/k/a Moose Hardy in 1967 when he was between colleges. He was working in Albany for a company that rented and serviced vending machines. A company like his families in Malone. He drove the company truck which had musical notes painted on the side. It was referred to as Moose’s , “ Looney Tune Truck” . Don was always happy, always smiling. He was a great man to have a beer with. Later I was in Law school when Don was at Plattsburgh and we spent a number of weekends in Albany or Plattsburgh or Malone consuming more then a few beers. We both graduated in 1972 and both moved to NYC and shared an apartment for 9 months in Corona Queens, God help us.
Unfortunately our paths separated and I hadn’t seen or talked with Moose for over 40 years. I regret that. I think fondly of those days and the people who populated them including Don. He was always great company.
I was saddened to see he never married or became a father. I think the world would be a better place if he had. I think he would have been a good husband and an even better father.
Heaven is now a better place. I can see St Pete taking a ride with Moose, in that Looney Tune truck on Warwick Ave in the sky.

My condolences to Don's family. I had just recently heard about Don,s passing.I first met Don in the Franklin Hotel bar Thanksgiving weekend in 1962 when I was on a deer hunting trip with my older brother and some of his rowdy friends. I was only 16 at the time and had a most raging hangover the next day on our drive back to Buffalo. Little was I to know, our paths crossed again in 1964 at Siena College and have remained friends ever since with many mutual friends with fun and laughs over the years. I could go on for many pages with stories.
I saw Don most recently in June when he was here to offer his comfort and condolences to myself and family on my wife’s passing.
I will always remember Don as a true friend.
Rest in Peace, my friend.
