David's obituary
David Lee Singer Jr. went home to Jesus on December 13th, 2021 at age 76. Dave was born to David Lee Singer Sr. and Florence Singer on September 27th, 1945 in Edgewood, Maryland. As a child Dave pursued his education along with gymnastics. When he was only 8 years old, Dave saved 3 girl scouts from drowning in a stream. Dave served actively in the army from October 28th, 1963 to October 27th, 1966 where he was able to complete his degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked repairing Early Watch Systems. During his enlistment and following his active service in the U.S. Military, Dave served his country as a federal officer until October, 2010. As a federal officer, Dave was tasked with working undercover in the narcotics division of the Maryland State Police, working undercover within many other police precincts investigating corrupt officers, and various other assignments.
During his service, Dave built a lasting friendship with former President Ronald Reagan and had the privilege of meeting several other presidents in his lifetime. In his civilian life apart from his service to his country, Dave moved to California where he began an entrepreneurial lifestyle building multiple careers for himself.
After a move to Arizona in 1977, Dave began a new assignment to investigate corrupt guards at Florence prison, where he worked undercover training guards in self defense tactics. On September 11th, 1978 the stress of that lifestyle took its toll and Dave suffered multiple heart attacks and strokes leading him into the hospital for three months and on December 14th, 1978 Dave suffered a fatal heart attack mid-surgery leaving him dead for 28 minutes and 7 seconds before his heart miraculously began beating again.
Following his recovery, Dave continued with his entrepreneurial endeavors by starting a general contracting business he called "The Specialist". Dave decided to tell his story in a book he authored titled "Jesus Help Me" whilst running his construction company, Dave began touring North America speaking for a multitude of venues in an effort to share his story as a part of a non-profit organization he formed titled, "DLS Ministries". As a minister and as a friend, Dave fostered many homeless young men throughout the years and gave them training/employment as sub-contractors.
After retiring from speaking and ministry, Dave continued to pursue his passion for business by purchasing a chain of Laundry Mats and eventually a chain of western and southwestern gift shops titled "Outwest Gifts". It was his final business endeavor, "Outwest Gifts," that Dave found to be his most passionate project. Supporting the Native community across the United States, Canada, and Mexico became Dave's joy and in that joy he built many lifelong friends and many whom he considered family.
It was by Dave's faith in Jesus Christ that he attributes his successes in life and he always believed that his greatest success was being able to teach his children who Jesus is. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him.
Dave joins his father David, mother Florence, and sister Adele in Heaven. He is survived by his 6 children; Janet, David, Christeen, Sarah, Daniel, and Davey.
Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. - Psalm 62:5-8 NIV
