David's obituary

David Kenneth Rifenburg, a man who always embraced life to the fullest, passed away at the age of 56 on October 16, 2023, in his home. A true visionary, Dave accomplished extraordinary feats that most could only dream of.

David hailed from Troy, NY, where he graduated from La Salle Institute. David grew up attending races at the nearby Lebanon Valley. Here, he learned the values of speed, resilience in the face of adversity, and an unwavering commitment to being the best, never settling for second place. These values became the guiding principles in his life's race to the finish line.

In 1985, at a high school dance, fate introduced Dave to Michelle, his wife, best friend, business partner, and the mother of their three beautiful daughters. His magnetic charm quickly captivated Michelle, thus beginning their love story spanning his lifetime.

His love for construction began in New York and continued as he paved his way to success in North Carolina. Here, Dave built his own legacy, touching the lives of countless individuals, including his work family, his racing community, and friends from all walks of life.

David’s favorite times were spent at his lake house, at the dirt track, on the island of Anguilla and in his beloved “garage.” Those who knew Dave in these places could always count on him sharing and showing his love by producing great food, good music, and memorable times. Dave innately knew these three ingredients brought people together and forged life-long bonds.

David is survived by his wife Michelle and their three daughters: Jessica, Ashley, and Lindsay, his Uncle John “Jack” Rifenburg, along with countless other family and friends. However, his impact will continue to resonate with so many more. His employees fondly referred to him as "Jefe," racers celebrated victories in his colors and sponsorship, friends from Upstate New York to Anguilla held him dear, and numerous others were touched by his presence.

Despite his relatively short time on this Earth, David enriched the lives of so many. He extended opportunities to those around him, offered an open-door policy at his home, and never shied away from throwing unforgettable parties. As a result, he amassed a staggering number of friends. Remarkably, David was in touch with many of them shortly before his passing. It's highly likely that his influence has reached even those who may not have had the privilege of knowing him personally as they read this tribute to his remarkable life, perhaps while safely landing on one of the many airport runways he constructed.

David departed this world unexpectedly, but not alone, with his French bulldog Bruno, a loved one, and a lifelong friend by his side. A celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, we kindly request that you honor his memory by living life “your way” just as David did.

"I've lived a life that's full. I traveled each and every highway. And more, much more. I did it, I did it my way" - Frank Sinatra
