Colin's obituary
With deep love and respect, we share the passing of Colin Roche on January 2, 2025, at the age of 54. Colin was a beloved partner, son, brother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone he met.
Colin was a seeker, shaped by his Catholic upbringing and inspired by many spiritual practices. These values deepened his commitment to compassion and loving-kindness, which he carried throughout his life. Born on September 25, 1970, in Toronto, Ontario, Colin had a natural curiosity about the world and a gift for seeing beauty and meaning in even the simplest moments.
An artist at heart, singing was Colin’s lifelong love. He studied at the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, starred in many Opera School productions, and spent several seasons with the Canadian Opera Company chorus. Everyone who heard him sing knew his voice was extraordinary—a gift that moved hearts and lifted spirits. In quiet moments or joyful gatherings, his voice reflected the beauty and depth he carried within.
Colin’s life embraced both joy and sorrow, light and shadow. He faced challenges with courage and introspection and found joy in connection, creativity, and love. His passing reminds us to hold the complexities of life with compassion—for ourselves and for one another.
Colin leaves behind Juniper, his partner of 18 years, his parents Maurice and Beth Roche, his siblings George, Gigi, and Chris, and Juniper’s parents Angela and Wesley and her siblings Micah (Bassira), Radhi (Megan), and Virgil. He was predeceased by his mother Lily and his two beloved animal companions, Frankie and Jazz.
We will celebrate Colin’s life on Saturday, January 18, at 1 pm at 280 Howland Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. To honor his memory, please consider supporting the Canadian Mental Health Association or practicing an act of loving-kindness in his name—whether through prayer, meditation, or a simple gesture of care for someone in need.
Colin’s journey reminds us that life is a mosaic of light and shadow, beauty and imperfection. His legacy of kindness, curiosity, and the enduring beauty of his voice lives on in all who knew him.
