Cindy's obituary
Cynthia Jean Hammond (Cindy), 69, of Tarpon Springs, FL passed away peacefully in her home on April 21, 2023.
Cindy, born June 16, 1953, in New Bern N.C., grew up in Ellicott City, MD, and graduated from Mount Hebron High School (Class of 1971). She loved children and spent her career working in childcare development.
Cindy is survived by her mother, Anna Jean (Jean) Lanier, her brother, James Samuel (Sam) Hammond, and sisters Elizabeth (Liz) Laumann Watson, Jean Anne Rodgers Robinson, and Anne Jenifer (Jen) Antonious Logan. Her sons are Tyler James Hammond and his wife, Brittany, and Robert Gene Hammond. Cindy’s four grandchildren include Colton, Carson, Harper, and Oaklynn Hammond.
Cindy was an organ donor and requested her remains to be cremated. A Celebration of Life ceremony to honor Cindy’s memories will be held Sunday, July 2nd, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 pm (noon) at Sunset Beach, 1800 Gulf Rd, Tarpon Springs, FL. Tyler and Robert will spread her ashes over the ocean as requested by their mom. A reception following the celebration will be held.
Cindy, every morning, would wake up and send her mother an email, and if not every day, several times a week, sent texts to her boys to let them know she loved them or was thinking about them. She regularly attended her grandchildren’s sports games or Facetime with them. She loved her sons, with all her heart, and did an amazing job raising them as a single mother. Both Tyler and Robert went on to serve in the U.S. Army and continue to serve today. Cindy, a kind, loving, and giving person, always had a smile and good word for anyone she came in contact with. At Cindy’s bequest, an education fund has been set up for the benefit of her four grandchildren to help them further their education after high school. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to her education fund established in her memory. Donations can be made via the enclosed link or checks can be made out to CJ Hammond Education Fund Account and deposited or mailed to any Bank of America locations. The family wishes to thank Tarpon Springs Police Department and Dobies Funeral Home, both located in Tarpon Springs, FL, for their help.
