Cloria's obituary

Cloria Elizabeth Lewis Wheeler was born on May 26, 1950, in East St. Louis, Illinois to the union of Jesse Lewis Sr and Bessie Mae Haynes Lewis. Cloria was the 11th child to join this sibling mixture of five (5) boys and five (5) girls. Cloria was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Esther Lewis Bratcher, Annie Lewis Norman and Jessie Mae Lewis and brothers, Samuel Jordan and Will Lewis.

Cloria was a “TrueLight Baby” attending the Sunday School cradle roll class through senior high classes. She was baptized by the late Reverend Henry Nicholson. She also participated in the Junior Choir, Baptist Youth Fellowship and the Baptist Training Union.

Cloria received her public school education in East St. Louis School District #189. She attended Dunbar Elementary, Hughes-Quinn Jr. High and graduated from Lincoln Senior High School at the age of 16. Cloria matriculated at Southern Illinois University- East St. Louis joining 3 older siblings before attending Belleville Area College and completing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology at Concordia College in Morehead, Minnesota. It was there that she met her future and beloved husband, Kenneth West Wheeler, Sr. She furthered her social work education at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattisburg, Mississippi.

Cloria and Kenneth were married August 16, 1975, at Pilgram Baptist Church in East St. Louis, Illinois, and they became the parents of three children - Kenneth Wheeler II, Eric Wheeler, and Harrison Wheeler. She was an amazing wife, an amazing mother, and an amazing human being. Although trained as a social worker, she worked for many years as a parent coordinator with Milwaukee Public Schools where she retired after 25 years of service.

Her devoted love ones who mourn her passing are her husband, Rev. Kenneth Wheeler, Sr., children Kenneth II. (Jane) Wheeler, Eric (Andrea) Wheeler, and Harrison (Cindy) Wheeler; five (5) adoring grandchildren Maya, Elijah, Brooklyn, Skye and Noah Wheeler; siblings Larry Jordan, Shirley Reid, Mary Lewis Bobbitt, Michael (Cynthia) Lewis and Jesse Jr. and sister-in law Betty Conners Lewis; a host of nieces and nephews, grand and great great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
