My condolences to the Cheek family. I have known Chris , his siblings and his mother since I was a baby. They were like extended family to my family.  My heart goes out to those nearest and dearest to him. He always had such an infectious smile. May he rest in eternal peace!!!
My condolences to Chris's family. I first met Chris [when my step-son was playing on the Richmond Metro Team Chris was coaching. ]  [ Saw Chris again when my step-son was paying for another AAU Team and I ask Chris if he saw the movie Blue Chips.  Chris just smiled. ].

Mona and Family;

Chris was special! He showed up at VCU and walked into the Commons. I’m like “what’s up?”. We both were from DC and he went to Wilson where my cousin Wayne went. We were tight from there!

Chris and I talked for an hour and a half in March. Laughing, talking hoops and memories. Humble and kind. We need him but Jesus had different plans.

Bless y’all!

My condolences to the Cheeks family.  Chris was my friend and brother on the Wilson Tigers basketball team. Chris and I spent a lot time together in Georgia when he was the Assistant Coach at Georgia State. I will miss you and love you.
What an awesome friend that always took the time to call and check on you! Always had a positive outlook on Life, coaching, and family. Chris you will be dearly missed  and I pray that your Wife, kids, and family cherish the great memories that you provided for them. Your powerful and robust stature with such a pleasant and gentle demeanor allowed your presence to be full of confidence, laughter, and wisdom! Rest in Heavenly Peace my friend 🙏🏾👏🏽🌈

My thoughts and prayers 🙏🏾🙏🏾 are with the Cheeks family during this tough time.

Being a fellow college coach from the DC area me and Chris shared many conversations over the years about everything under the sun.  Really going to miss you my brother!!

So very sad to hear the news of Chris this past week.  Chris played basketball for Coach Vic Trilli at Lon Morris College. He was an outstanding player not only at Lon Morris, but also at VCU.  But more than that, Chris was an outstanding young man.  This past fall we were vacationing in the Boston area and we met Chris and his family at the airport for a visit.  This meeting was so bittersweet and we took pictures together.  Of course Vic and Chris talked basketball memories, nonstop.  East Texas must have been a culture shock for the young Chris Cheeks. The small town, southern drawls, barbeque, fried catfish, and slow life were so different from the life he lived in DC.  We have received many phone calls from the team Chris played on at LMC, all of us are trying to comprehend this loss. Thank you, VCU and BC for the wonderful articles about this special man. Yes, he was "one of the good ones, " in every way. Many players come and go, but in our experience we shall always love and never forget Chris Cheeks.  Love and hugs to the Family. We shall attend the service from Denton, Texas, via the video link.
