Cheryl's obituary

Cheryl Lynn Hamilton 05/14/1955 – 08/01/2023

Palm Desert, California - After living most of her adult life in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, she also resided in the Seattle area before retiring to California.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Cheryl Lynn Hamilton, who peacefully left us on August 1, 2023, after battling Glioblastoma brain cancer. She was born on May 14,1955 in Gettysburg, South Dakota. From the moment she came into this world, her presence brought an abundance of love, joy, and warmth to all who knew her.

Cheryl's infectious laughter, warm smile and kind demeanor could brighten even the darkest of days. She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will forever be etched in our hearts. Cheryl was a pillar of strength, a beacon of light, and the heart and soul of our family. She made our house and family a safe and loving home.

Cheryl is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Brett Alan Hamilton, her daughter Shaysa Rae Miller and husband Patrick, grandson Declan Grady, and granddaughter Ellery Gable, her son Ryan Scott Hamilton and his partner Zachary Lawson. She was preceded in death by her father Texas James Bennett. She is also survived by her mother Lois Darlyne Bennett, sister Gaye Lee Newlun and husband David, brother James Lee Bennett and wife Charlotte, sister Rae Lynn Snidal, brother Colby James Bennett and wife Jesse along with many extended family members.

Cheryl’s unconditional love, generosity, and kindness extended beyond her family that had a lasting impact on her friends and surrounding community. She had an innate ability to lift spirits, offer solace, and turn simple moments into cherished memories. Those whom she encountered were seen, heard, and cared for.

Cheryl graduated Magna Cum Laude from college where she majored in Biology. Her career spanned many disciplines including healthcare R&D, pastoral ministry, counselling, office management, nursing, and caregiving. Her dedication to serving others and tireless efforts to make the world a better place one person at a time, was truly inspiring.

Cheryl was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching football, tennis, basketball, hockey, and golf. She encouraged others to achieve their goals and found immense joy in celebrating with them. In her spare time, you might find her searching for treasure in a local thrift store. She loved the thrill of finding “just the right thing” to mail to loved ones (just because). Her thoughtful nature came straight from her heart.

Like all of us, Cheryl had her quirks and was entirely human. She had a deep sense of justice and at times, a sharp tongue. She was impassioned for anyone who was wronged or overlooked and would react swiftly with force. We loved that about her. Her loyalty, beliefs and faith were lived out loud privately and for all to see.

Cheryl’s life was guided by her close relationship with Christ. She always had a theme to live by. Because she had always lived a life with eternity in clear focus, upon learning the shocking news of her diagnosis, she proclaimed that her days are not numbered or defined by cancer, but by her God. Psalm 23 became her anthem. She also recently gained inspiration from the writings of Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth who authored the book "Heaven Rules". Two simple words that can calm your fears, comfort your heart, and give you courage to press on: Heaven Rules! ...does not call for a passive acceptance of fate; but comes with the promise of grace for the battle. We know that Cheryl made heaven her home and we yearn to join her one day.

In her honor, we invite you to join us celebrating the beautiful life of Cheryl on: Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at 2:00pm in the Capital View Room (15th floor) at Hyatt Regency Sacramento. Hyatt 1209 L Street, Sacramento, California, 95814.

We also invite you to share your fond memories through this site.

We kindly request you would consider making a donation to the Glioblastoma Research Organization that focuses on more effective treatments for this disease.

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23 NLT

In loving memory of our dear Cheryl Lynn Hamilton, her light will forever shine in our hearts. Rest in Peace. We look forward to joining you in heaven.
