Charles's obituary
Charles Elliott Davis, Jr., 69, of Ewing, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023.
Charles was born in Trenton, New Jersey on December 11th, 1953 to Charles E. Davis, Sr. and the late Johnnie M. Davis (Potter).
Charles is survived by his father, Charles E. Davis, Sr. (& Juanita); His children: Charon Davis, Jenita (& Robert) Boatwright, Cwinton (& Gamellia) Davis, Jeremy (& Dana) Davis, Joia (& Lamont) Moore, and step-daughter, Miyako Winchester-Henry; His grandchildren: Amari, Isaiah, Kayla, Nylah, Robert V, Jamal, Jamiah, Olivia, Maya, Lia, Jeremiah, Lamont Jr, Kendrick, Asia, William, and Joseph. He is also survived by his former wife: Veronica Davis (Jackson) and siblings (& children): Gerald (Shane & Jordan), Mildred (Jerwan & Jonee), Kenneth (Noelle), Alicia, and Jonathan. Charles is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Donald (& Margaret), Alice, Patricia (& Irving, Sr), a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, and numerous other family and friends.
Charles, or Chuck, as some called him, lived and led by example by selflessly sharing his heart, time, knowledge, and money to bless and love all of God’s children, unconditionally. He loved his family tremendously, and humbly put their needs and desires before his own regardless of the environment, distance, or hour of day.
Chuck began playing and excelling in various sports at a young age. He eagerly passed along his talents, knowledge, and expertise to not only his siblings and children, but also their friends and associates. He embodied the phrase, "It takes a village", and for so many, he was that village.
Expounding upon the God-fearing foundation exampled by his elders, Charles, Jr. was a faithful and diligent member of the following churches in chronological order: Pentecostal Faith Tabernacle (Trenton, NJ), Emmanuel Tabernacle (Trenton, NJ), and Oak Grove Baptist (Charlotte, NC). Anytime anyone was in need, Charles would seek ways to assist through any means: monetary, personal time investment, or, if physically incapable, he would drop everything and pray with and for you. He firmly believed in Jesus’ words, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them,” Matthew 18:20. He always said, “Prayer through the love of Christ is the best gift anyone could give or receive.”
Because Charles strongly believed that early investment and diligent planning would inform financial health and contentment, he voluntarily and willingly took on the role as financial and investment educator and advisor for his family, friends, and church communities, paving the way for financial stability.
In his earlier years, Charles was a faithful employee at US Steel. After having children, Charles was a long-time employee and friend to many at the Office of Information Technology for the State of New Jersey from which he retired in August 2015. Charles believed in education and encouraged all he mentored (sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, brothers, sister, and cousins) to learn all they could. After his children were grown, Charles went back to school and earned his college degree from Thomas Edison State University. In retirement, he took classes towards a degree in Divinity at Charlotte Christian College and Theological Seminary.
To all those who had the pleasure of knowing Charles/Chuck/Chucky/Dad, he was an inspiration. He would never let you leave without a prayer, a hug, and saying, “I love you.” So in the spirit of all things Charles E. Davis, we love you and thank you for all that you did to love him back!
