Background
Celia May Davis, R.N. was an exceptional nurse who epitomized deep care and compassion for her patients. Graduating from nursing school as a young mother was among her greatest accomplishments.
Nursing school was not easy. Celia spent many long nights studying for exams after her two daughters were asleep. She navigated the pressures of raising her children and starting over after a divorce with poise. Celia would record her notes and make up songs to recall complex anatomy terms. She sang some of these songs with her daughters, and they'd laugh about how silly some of the words were ("alveolar process" always prompted resounding laughter) . Celia went on to be the commencement speaker for the Wayne County Community College District Nursing program in Detroit (class of 1993), and spent decades offering dedicated service to patients and residents.
In honor of Celia May Davis, her daughters and family would like to raise funds for a scholarship to support an ambitious young mother and aspiring R.N. from her alma mater. Nursing changed Celia's life and brought her so much fulfillment. She worked tirelessly with duty and integrity. It is fitting that her legacy include supporting the next generation of heart-driven, brilliant and dynamic nurses. All funds raised in her honor will be used to provide one or more small tuition scholarships to nominated WCCCD nursing students in the Fall of 2024. Contribute
