Carl's obituary
Carl Young, beloved husband of Diane DuChon Young, passed peacefully on Friday, October 20, at home. Born in Electra, Texas, he was the son of the late Ruby and Perry Young and brother to the late Patricia Novak. He went to Bowie High School, Decatur Baptist Junior College, and then to Howard Payne University for his undergraduate degree. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical, Community, and Social Psychology from Peabody College/Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He taught at Johns Hopkins University and Penn State University after which he opened a private clinical psychology practice in Walnut Creek, California. He then held management positions with GreenSpring Mental Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Before retirement, he had a private clinical psychology practice in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
Especially known for his funny stories, his quick wit, his "Carlisms", and his sound advice, Carl was a mentor and friend to countless individuals. He maintained his Texas drawl throughout his life, as well as his ability to make a great chocolate pie and pecan pie, which he shared with many. He was a voracious reader and could recite passages from books read long ago. Carl was also a Baptist minister and performed the wedding ceremonies of friends and family, and they all had his humorous personal touch.
Carl is survived by his wife, Diane DuChon Young, his daughter Xan Joyner Young, his stepson and daughter-in-law, Michael and Loren Pearl, his grandchildren, Seth, Alex, and Brooke Pearl and Kai Bennett-Young. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Sara DuChon, his nieces Kelli (Ryan) Mooney, Allie (Sean) Fitzsimmons and great niece Hailey Mooney and great nephew Charlie Fitzsimmons. His many cousins and aunts and uncles shall also miss his light.
