Candy's obituary
Candace Ann Golden, age 70, of Toledo, Oregon, found eternal rest on June 2nd, 2024 in Corvallis, Oregon, surrounded by her loving family.
Candy was born on February 19th, 1954, in Redmond, Oregon. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Helen Wortman of Florence, Oregon. Candy graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1972 and attended Portland Community College to become a licensed dental hygienist. After completing her degree in 1975, Candy relocated to the Oregon coast to begin her career. She married James Thomas Golden on April 28th, 1979, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Bend, Oregon. Candy and Jim settled in Toledo to raise their family.
Candy served as organist and music liturgist for St. Patrick's Catholic Parish in Toledo and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Parish (Mission of Sacred Heart Newport) in Siletz for over four decades. In addition to utilizing her musical gifts to express her devotion to her faith, Candy applied her abundant creative energy to stained glass art, gardening, cooking, and canning. Her love of art led her to volunteer and assist with grant-writing at the Yaquina River Museum of Art. Candy was also a passionate educator who created a rich and rigorous home learning environment for her children, and after retirement found joy in teaching music to younger generations. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking frequent camping trips with her family. She was actively engaged in many of her hobbies and community service activities until her passing.
Candy is survived by her sister, Kathleen; her husband, Jim; her five children, Kate, Melissa, David, Matthew, and Christine; and three grandchildren, Leon, Carly, and Josephine.
Candy’s funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Siletz, Oregon, on August 17, 2024.
