Calista and I have always had some weird and quirky conversations, but this one lasted an unreasonably long time. For the entire spring quarter, we would continue this one conversation every time we met, pulling in everyone around us to contribute too. The question was "how do you think?" which seemed like a simple enough question, but I just couldn't believe how she answered the question. Calista told me she thinks in subtitles, as in, subtitles appear before her in her mind in the situation she's in. Fully formed words and sentences, word for word, spawn into her reality as other people speak on top of subtitles of her inner monologue. That seemed wild to me (I think in pictures and feelings), and I just couldn't fathom thinking in such a vastly opposite way. The conversation then became about which one is more efficient and devolved into her asking everyone and anyone how they do their thinking. I don't know why, but this one conversation has stuck with me ever since, and every time I watch a movie with subtitles, Calista comes to mind. Calista has always shared so much of her wit and joy with everyone around her, and I'm so grateful to be her friend.

    Dead Calista,

Though it’s been a while since we last spoke, I hope you rest well and know how loved you are.

    Best,

    Elise

First time I met Calista…she was such a sweet and adorable baby, who grew up to be an incredible and amazing young woman. She will forever be our angel shining bright, living in our hearts for all eternity. She will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Jonas, Heather, and Noah, and to all those who’s lives she touched.
