Caitlin's obituary

Caitlin Fennessy died tragically in Austin, Texas, on December 15, 2022.

She was born in New York City in February 1986 to Michael and Martha Fennessy.

Her childhood was spent in Garden City with her beloved parents and siblings Meredith, Brianne, Con, and Aidan. Caitlin later moved with her family to Bedford, where she graduated from Fox Lane High School in 2004. Caitlin was an exceptional student and an all-star athlete, setting multiple county records.

Cait double majored in Mandarin and Spanish at Hamilton College and graduated in 2008 with lifelong friends and an insatiable desire to explore the world. After graduation, Cait traveled and lived in China, New York, Spain, Morocco, Seattle, and Austin, making incredible friends along the way. She was a world traveler and master linguist, fluent in Spanish and Mandarin, while casually picking up French, Italian and Arabic in her travels. Cait's professional life began in the design world in New York City, where she also studied to become a Pilates instructor. Her love for her partner Ted McDermott brought her to Seattle, Washington and eventually to Austin, Texas.

Cait founded The Peach House - Pilates, elevated in her Austin home in 2018, creating a uniquely soulful space where people come for strength, connection, and community and where strangers become family. The beloved Peach House is a beautiful reflection of who she was. Her love and connection to music, spirituality and a keen understanding of anatomy and movement allowed her to curate a transformative experience for her clients. Two years later, Cait took her vision to the next level, transforming a concrete garage into an ethereal space, repeatedly voted the Best Pilates Studio in Austin. It was at The Peach House that she worked her magic, touching the lives of all who passed through the doors.

Cait deeply loved her family, Teddy, her countless friends, her dog Gumbo, the beaches of Martha's Vineyard, and getting swept away by her next adventure. She was the best big sister to her four siblings and was admired by her grandparents, aunts, uncles and 36 cousins. Cait had a voracious appetite for life, never subscribing to the time of this world. Her heart was her clock. She squeezed every bit out of every day in her 36 years with us.

She was exuberant, creative, compassionate, intuitive, and spontaneous in all that she did. Cait lived life to the absolute fullest and loved all of her people fiercely.

Caitlin is survived by her parents, Martha and Michael, and siblings Meredith, Brianne (Brendan), Con and Aidan. She will be missed every minute.

We are planning Celebration of Life services in Austin and New York.
