Bruce's obituary

Bruce Mattson Taylor, 74, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 21, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

Bruce was born on May 31, 1950 to Harold and Ruth Taylor in Everston, Illinois. After he graduated from Eastchester Senior High School in Eastchester, New York in 1968, he went on to study statistics and sociology at the University of Cornell, and later received his PhD at the University of Michigan.

Throughout his professional career, Bruce worked as a senior statistician at multiple government organizations including the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the Government Accountability Office, and most recently, the National Center for Education Statistics, Department of Education.

Everyone who knew him knew that Bruce had an outstanding passion for music. Together with his wife, Carol, Bruce was a champion for the arts, especially for children and for his community. He belonged to many musical organizations both as a musician and as a board member and organizer. Through Bruce's passion and selfless nature, many people have come together to make music, a gift that will continue to live on in their lives.

Bruce was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carol, his mother Ruth, father Harold, and his sister, Lynn. He is survived by daughter Sarah, son Eric, granddaughter Emily, and daughter- and son-in-law Mary and John.

Services will be held at Saint Matthew's Lutheran church at 12351 All Saints Pl, Woodbridge, VA 22192 on July 29, 2024 at 2:00PM EST. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bruce Taylor Memorial Fund.
