Bonnie's obituary
With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we share that our beloved Bonnie Jean Johnson (age 91) passed November 7, 2025. She was surrounded in the love of her family, with her devoted husband of 67 years, Donald Jay Johnson (age 94), by her side. She was treasured by her daughters and son-in- laws, Sharon Johnson, Marianne (Patrick) Petersen, and Kathleen (Greg) Yanik, and grandchildren, Zoe and Ian Yanik. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, including her surviving sister, Pauline Itter, and her many beautiful nieces and nephews.
Born Bonnie Jean Daley in Bay City, Michigan, she came from a large family of eight. She moved to Ann Arbor to attend University of Michigan, where she met her husband, Don. They married in 1958 and started their family in Don’s hometown of Ludington, Michigan. They settled with their daughters in Canton in 1979, where they remained and shared many happy years together, traveling with family and returning to Ludington every Fourth of July.
Bonnie loved singing and her beautiful voice filled the house when she was happiest. She was a lover of reading and history, which she shared with her daughters. She loved poetry and, mostly, good conversation with family and friends. She gave her wisdom and love to all that needed a shoulder to lean on. Her smile, which she gave freely, would brighten any heart. During her final years, she battled declining mobility and dementia, with the support of her husband and family. Bonnie and Don could often be found holding hands, sharing their devotion to each other. She will be profoundly missed, but forever in our hearts.
She will be interned at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington, Michigan. If you would like to remember Bonnie, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society are welcome.
