Beth's obituary

On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, Dr. Beth Ellen Frost (DO, FCAP, F-ABMDI)’s soul left her earthly body at the age of 46. Throughout Beth’s amazing and colorful life, there were countless things she learned and subsequently integrated into her daily practices. Though impossible to recount them all, the best of what she embodied can be summed up as follows: never question your personal truth, even if that means making hard decisions, and always surround yourself with the people, activities, and things that you most love and find beautiful.

Beth entered this world October 27, 1976, and from that day forward the brilliance of her soul shown through to everyone she met. She was the eldest child of Rex and Joyce Watkins and the sibling of Ryan Watkins and Erin Dickey. Her youth was spent in Odessa, MO, enjoying friends, family, sports and community. After high school graduation she obtained her undergraduate and master's degrees in Communication Disorders from University of Central Missouri. After spending time living and working as a speech pathologist in Hawaii and Colorado, she ultimately decided to pursue a lifelong goal and returned to Missouri to attend medical school at Kansas City University (formerly Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences). Following graduation, she completed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Kentucky and then a fellowship in forensic pathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. In 2017 Beth accepted her first Medical Examiner’s position with the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office in Phoenix, Arizona. In June of 2020 she returned to Dallas, TX, to work at the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office. As a member of the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME), she was profoundly proud of her profession, her colleagues nationwide, and most specifically her colleagues at the Dallas ME’s office.

While the educational and professional achievements of Beth were many, the legacy of her memory will live on in the content of her character. Of the many reasons why Beth was dearly loved by family, friends, and colleagues, here are a few of the qualities that Beth embodied and instilled into those she loved most….

  1. Regardless of the difficult choices you have to make, when it comes to your children, love them deeply and always smile with radiant pride and joy because they are the best thing you ever created.
  2. NEVER question necessity and ALWAYS buy the shoes, even if they’re creepily adorned with peacock feather eyes or are of the loudest color patent leather imaginable (a black outfit matches everything).
  3. Decorate your house and life in the most vibrant of colors. This includes multitudes of orchids, striking art and furniture, and even glow in the dark hot pink and orange garage floors (trust us, they make the best New Year’s Eve family dance parties).
  4. All homemade food should be decadent and take an exorbitant length of time to make. Be sure to plan an entire day with your closest people to decide the meal, shop for ingredients, prep and chop for hours, have a glass of wine, prepare the meal, set a beautiful table, and finally, enjoy the meal. *Beth Pro Tip*: Buy dessert because you will run out of time.
  5. Always begin every event or road trip with ALL the colorful candy…to the point of making Willy Wonka jealous.
  6. When you discover new products that become your favorite things, be sure to immediately alert your closest people to your findings. Subsequently, send those beloved items as random gifts to those same people.
  7. Take time for sleep and feel no guilt.
  8. Always travel when you can. Particularly to places with good food and wine…but always travel.
  9. Make the plan, invite the people, create the community, and show up heart-forward.
  10. Bubbles, bubbles, and (oh yeah) bubbles. (if you know, you know)

Those left to honor Beth’s memory include her parents Rex and Joyce Watkins of Odessa, MO, her two children Ellen and Jude, siblings Erin (Beau) Dickey of Odessa, MO, Ryan Watkins (Tori Hochart) of Odessa, MO, five nieces and nephews: Harper Dickey, Elin Dickey, Rhexx Watkins, Lucas Martin, and Jillian Martin; her honorary sister Chelsea Curry of Lee’s Summit, MO, and many other family members and friends. We will carry on her legacy throughout the rest of our days, and will raise her most cherished accomplishment, her children, to know what an amazingly beautiful and vibrant person she was.

A private memorial will be held for immediate family, and a celebration of life for all who loved her will be held in the coming months. Please refer to https://everloved.com/life-of… for details when they are released.
