Berl's obituary
Berl Wayne Bridwell – “Home Chikin”
It is with great sadness that the family of Berl Wayne Bridwell announces his passing on December 7, 2025, in Denton, Texas, after a year-long battle with cancer. Berl was born on November 22, 1961, in Groom, Texas, to Berl Ross and Jessie Bridwell.
He is survived by his children: Christy Kilgo and her husband Damon; Derek Bridwell and his wife Anna; Jacob Bridwell; and Morgan Bridwell. He is also survived by his sister, Sherry Timmons, her husband Rick, and his nephews Brad and Jarrod. Berl leaves behind five grandchildren—Alayna, Jesse, Owen, Caleb, and Mia—who knew him fondly as Papa.
Berl proudly served in Texas law enforcement for 32 years, a career marked by dedication, courage, and a commitment to public service. Throughout his years of service, he held many respected roles, including Patrol Lieutenant, Narcotics Officer, and Detective Sergeant in Borger, CPS Officer in Texarkana, and School Resource Officer in Bridgeport, where he ultimately retired. Of all his assignments, his favorite was the years he spent as a Motor Officer in Flower Mound—a role that perfectly reflected his love of motorcycles, the open road, and serving the community.
Outside of work, Berl embraced life fully. He loved music, traveling, going camping, riding his Harley, and spending time with family. One of his greatest joys was being surrounded by his brothers and sisters in the Iron Pigs Motorcycle Club, where he was known as “Home Chikin,” a name that reflected the bond and loyalty he shared with them.
Berl will be remembered for his laid-back, easygoing spirit, his sense of adventure, and his readiness for a good time. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Gone, but never forgotten.
A BBQ lunch and Celebration of Life for Berl will be held on December 21st at 1:00 PM at 208 W. Walnut Street, Denton, Texas 76201. The family kindly asks for an RSVP by December 15th from those who plan to attend, including the number of guests. Please send RSVPs through Berl's memorial site or via text to 682-276-4795.
